Hi! Hello! How are you? Like how are you really? We’re pretty good here, all things considered. Homeschooling is really scratching the introvert itch I have. Boys and I hunkered together reading and doing math and taking many snack breaks and it has been a joy. I plan to talk more about this in the future (any specifics I should talk about?).
How about some weekend reading…
This is such a nice collection of Halloween crafts for kids. I’m going to get the supplies for a few of them.
Speaking of crafts, this is a fun one.
I just got this turtleneck (above!!) and am wearing it over and over again.
After watching, and becoming completely entranced by, My Octopus Teacher, my friend Arianna told me about Cashes Ledge right here in New England. Unbelievable. I would love to see it one day.
Have you begun traveling at all? Still staying close to him? I’d love to get back to sharing little spots around the globe, and here’s one closer to home in North Conway. It’s such a sweet spot after some hiking or, in the not too distant future, skiing! Get a discount on your rental if you use this link. I think Airbnb is a great way to travel if you’re still tentative about Covid, but want to dip your toes into the world of travel again.
JT Firstman doing the fly’s publicist was one of the funnier commentaries on the fly moment from the debate. (I think often of the one he did about the charger not made by Apple. Such truth! “You’re not going to want to throw me out for awhile, because you literally just bought me.”)
I love the neck on this sweater.
Why we all love a Nancy Meyers’ house. The kitchen in It’s Complicated is one of my very favorites (yes, the one that she was in the midst of renovating!).
Beautycounter just released a handful of new products in their upcoming holiday line. I think this one will be the first to go — and if you’ve never tried Beautycounter, I’d say it’s the perfect intro to clean skincare that works. (The peel is my favorite favorite.)
My favorite fall books right now. Ox-Cart Man is an especially fun one for New Englanders!
One of the most smartly done shows is coming out with season 4 on November 15 — and this season is all about Diana!
I just pulled this sequencing set out of the basement and am using it for so much more beyond its intended use with Anders.
How do you guys feel about Vote shirts? In any case, I like this one.
Have a wonderful weekend friends, and take care of yourselves.

I LOVE Oxcart Man!

Always love your Friday posts! I know what you mean about reveling in being an introvert these days. The lack of options now is kind of freeing I used to stress a little about “what everyone else is doing.” Not anymore!

Regarding the homeschooling, I’m wondering how you get your boys to participate? Are they eager to do what you have planned and/or what you do if they resist? I have an 8 year old son in virtual 2nd grade and I have a horrible time getting him to do his work and be pleasant about it. It’s all a fight! I’d love any tips you might have about this.

oh it can be hard for me here too! what if you started the day with something really soothing / something they enjoyed? if you google ‘morning basket’ you will probably come up with some nice ideas of together time. it might ease him into the routine to begin that way, and fill his cup before he then logs on to virtual? we are doing our own thing — not virtual through our school — so with parker i explain why we are doing this, and how i really need him to work with me, and that the other option is sitting in his classroom masked for much of the day… so reasoning with him and validating him when necessary goes a long way too. that being said, not always! we struggle here too!
finally, perhaps a small bribe if necessary… even for something like a movie night, or his choice of restaurant after a few days doing it with a good attitude?
