Alright, it’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these. But, in an attempt to get back into the swing of things… into normalcy or something resembling it, four things I’m loving right now!
one. Parker has always had a thing for geography. Does that sound braggy? “My kid has allllllways had such a thing for algebra. Can you believe that? Algebra!” In any case, it is true! He does! So, when he opened a US map chalkboard (I took my friend Rachael’s idea–like I so often do–and wrapped some of their homeschool materials in brown paper. After all, it really is a gift to them. AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE, KIDS.) he went right to work on it. Side note: he has also enjoyed the Stack the States game on the iPad. And, as much as I hate to admit it, he has seriously learned a thing or two from it.
P.S. Who else votes Texas should be Texsas from now on?
two. Two comfy brands that keep popping up in my IG feed. Given that they are all like basically pajama-chic, it says something about where my mind (and my internet searches) are these days. Here they are: Mate the Label (top picture–how much do you love that sweatsuit? And it comes in a million colors. Give me a basic, give me color options, and I am happy.) and Richer Poorer. Are there others I should know about? I love me some pajama-chic. ETA: Just saw this set on Instagram and now it’s officially added to the list. Hold the phone, this one too. It is becoming clearer to me by the minute that if I no longer have to leave the house (homeschool), I will be wearing sweats a lot.
three. The French Apple Cake (that link is from when I made it myself) from 600 Acres blog. It’s so simple and classic and delicious. Especially delighted by this recipe seeing as I’m not a true baker — so pie crusts still intimidate me. Pair it with vanilla ice cream or without! I’m sort of a pie without ice cream person. Are you?
four. David Sedaris’ writing. I asked on Facebook recently for some light, funny recommendations. I’d just finished Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale which is anything but light. David Sedaris was recommended to me. I’m still in the beginning stages, but the first thing I read by him was this essay for the New Yorker and it had me laughing out loud more than once (I don’t consider myself a serious person, but I also am slow to actually laugh out loud.). I’ve never read Me Talk Pretty One Day, but I know that’s one of his most popular. I’m certain I used to have it, but I think it has disappeared in that place where all the single socks go.

If you’re looking for a light beachy read, try What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. Such a fun read!!

David Sedaris is the best! You must read all of his books. He’s probably the only author that has made me laugh out loud. Love him!

Agh, David Sedaris is my favorite author, hands down. We first heard him performing his essay, SantaLand Diaries, on This American Life years and years ago, and I think it was the hardest I’ve ever laughed at the radio. I read his collection, Holidays on Ice, every year at Christmastime. He’s one of the only authors that makes me laugh out loud in one paragraph and tear up the next.
Also, I’ve been stalking Marine Layer for what I’d like to call Homeschool-Chic outfits.

Me Talk Pretty One Day really is that good. Highly recommend. However- if you liked The Nightingale, I need you to think about All The Light We Cannot See. Same timeframe and location as Nightingale, but such a different story- and beautiful writing. It will make you cry though, fair warning.

You know that book has been sitting on my shelf for a long time?! I will read it one day. Light is necessary for me right now though — the world is feeling heavy!

Love the Better Days Sweatshirt in pink parchment!
Looked at the recipe for French Apple Cake— first of all, I WILL be making this in the near future, and second, thank you for introducing me to the 600 Acres blog!
Also, this is the second time I’ve seen you mention the essay by David Sedaris and this time I will actually go read it.

My kid is ALSO into geography. And I don’t care how braggy it sounds- I think it’s awesome. I’ve learned so much because of it!
