My little buddies. As strange and heavy as this time has been, I really, really love having these guys around and watching their friendship grow deeper (don’t love the absurd amount of fighting they are also capable of, however). Hope you guys are hanging in there wherever you are and staying healthy.
Some weekend reading…
What an amazing quarantine project. Would you ever sharpie wallpaper?
I’m told by a few friends that this chicken dish is delicious.
Waco has such a great cast and was so well done, and so completely devastating. Have you seen it? I watched it last week and I’m still going over the last episode in my mind.
This bra is really comfy to lounge in with a sweatshirt over top. (I have it!)
The 50 Best Shows on Netflix Right Now. There are a lot on that list I haven’t even heard of, but I was glad to see When They See Us on the list. Watch if you haven’t!
I might try some of this Lego Duplo math with Anders today. Any other fun activities for a five year old boy out there that you guys have tried?
More cases for black interior doors. One of the many projects I’ve thought about during quarantine.
Anders asks for a bath like every single day. Who am I to say no when we’re in quarantine? Simple pleasures. It’s an easy yes. I ordered these and, with bubbles (this being our favorite), it has really upped the bathtub game.
Another quarantine project… new outdoor furniture. Our set is pretty beat up at this point. I keep eyeing this piece.
This read is weighing heavy on me and has me in two minds about all of this.
Been making margaritas lately and they’re so delicious and so easy. I do fresh squeezed lime, a good splash of tequila (we like Espolon, but Milagro Reposado is good too), and a splash of Triple Sec. And a big ice cube. I’m going to try Cointreau in place of Triple Sec in the future. (This recipe is pretty much how I do it.)
That’s all for now. Stay well, friends.

after 10 months of waiting, i finally got approved by the state to be a foster mom. i’ve been waiting to bring in children during COVID. as a first time and single parent to foster kids, as a teacher who knows trauma in children takes an immense amount of patience and intention, i’ve said no. i wanted optimal circumstances for this endeavor. but, really, what is optimal about children having to be pulled away from their family? i am teaching from home but once school is out, i think i will open my home, regardless of the restrictions around stay at home orders. child abuse and domestic abuse is on the rise. i’m trying to adjust my thinking from COVID being a delay in my dreams and purpose to COVID being my reason why now is the perfect time.

I love that (and I agree). Your last sentence! This particular collateral damage is too great, to my mind. You’re going to be an amazing foster Mom, Aimee.

Yes!! Love this! We are foster parents in Massachusetts and always said when the time is right. And then decided the time will never be right, and that was almost two years ago. It’s hard but so so worth it!

You can also do the LEGO counting with wine corks. just sayin’! Ha!! 😉

A friend of mine sharpie-d a simple dash for wallpaper in her bathroom, and it adds just the right level of interest.
We started The Last Kingdom this week (on your recommendation) and were up until midnight watching it last night! I like it so much.
Foster parents are my heroes. Our close friends are, and their hearts, their flexibility, their generosity…I’m thankful for good people.
Martha Stewart’s margarita recipe using lemon, lime and orange is my all-time fav., people always ask for the recipe. So refreshing and carries that flavor complexity I’m always after in a margarita.
Hope you and yours are well.

Ooh. All those different citruses — I’m going to try that.
So glad you are enjoying Last Kingdom!!! Uhtred is the best.

Have you been watching Normal People on Hulu? Soooo good! Harkens me back to my first love!
bridget says
Finished it. It needs a post of its own. Connell forever.

Glad you’ve mentioned Normal People, I was about to start watching but wasn’t sure. Thanks!

For my 5 year olds son, I found this website that has great worksheet activities. One of the better websites I’ve seen. Worksheets are easy to print- and they look good. I printed a few that he had to cut out and sort objects into two categories (park/ocean, morning/night, winter/summer) and he really liked that.

If you need a bigger batch of Margs and don’t want to squeeze a bunch of limes, my dad makes a batch of limeade, but replaces some of the water with tequila and then do triple sec. They are pretty tasty.
