I’m waiting for beautiful weather, for school to end, for stems to poke through the dirt, to find the inspiration (courage) to get my tax documents ready, for my hair to dry, for that deposit to be made, for the Berkey to filter that water I filled it with, for that return to be refunded, for that book I put on hold at the library to arrive. I was walking behind Anders while he scootered yesterday. We were going to grab some pie crust at a local grocery store the other day–quiche for dinner. He was in an astronaut suit (the astronaut suit; still one of my best purchases, clearly–and from an H&M in Rome. Who’d have thought. Parker trailed me that day, insisting on it, and I remember thinking it was a little much for a kids’ costume, but here we are. It’s been well-loved and I’m probably holding onto it for their kids.)
Anyway, I had this thought–gosh, I can’t wait for the summer to get here. And just as soon as I said it, I remembered how fast the summer feels like it goes for me and how there’s beauty in the waiting–but wait, there’s more–there is beauty in the now. And so, I brought myself back from that thought, and decided that I will remain here in this very day, this very moment, and enjoy the surprise of a 70 degree day in March, enjoy watching the strong sweep of Anders’ right leg as it propels him forward on his scooter (that right leg that grew! in! my! belly!), enjoy this beautiful afternoon while knowing full well that the rain and cool weather will come again and it’s altogether necessary for the spring flowers to arrive. That’s really all it is. I’ve always been amazed at those who seem so present, who meditate consistently, who just seem wholly at peace and I’ve wondered what they’ve got that I don’t have. I think I’ve discovered it: absolutely nothing. Just a daily practice and intention. I can do that.

Yes! I love in Narnia when Aslan reminds Shasta that he’s not there to discuss his friend. The focus to reflect on, work on, and find joy in is our own story. Practice living and loving your story.

I laughed about waiting for the courage to gather the tax documents. Me too my friend me too. Also that sweater is just so amazing and my sister is a devoted meditator and I need to do it too I know it would help.

you TOTALLY need to do it! not that we needed more reasons, but… more reasons! https://www.forbes.com/sites/alicegwalton/2016/09/06/new-clues-into-how-meditation-can-boost-the-immune-system/?fbclid=IwAR1u6Owz-t-A-jwkFo1e1zHmMrLimB9x-5LxqCzAZu4sLXyUVScq5RddOLs#46e4a0193698

You are so right. It’s intention and gratitude that always help. Your frame of mind is so important…your outlook on what is and what’s to come. It’s like Thursdays. I’ve always liked Thursdays because it’s only one day until Friday. Most peoples’ favorite day is a Friday. It signifies the weekend to come, a break from school or work, etc. But Thursday just means you’re that much closer.
I think studies show that people are happy not just on vacation but in planning and prepping the vacation, even months ahead. Doing those things to set yourself up gets you excited and imagining all the bliss that you picture that vaca to bring you. Having something to look forward to makes you happy in the now.
