This book. The Heart’s Invisible Furies, will break your heart and mend it in a thousand different ways. It’s funny, it’s tragic, and it will make you ache. Set in Ireland, Amsterdam, and NYC over a 50+ year period, you will feel so deeply for Cyril, for the characters he encounters on his journey. You will witness redemption and the way both grief and joy mingle together in such effortless and bizarre ways. The stoicism of the human spirit amidst such pain will floor you. It’ll be a favorite book of mine for 2020. And it’s only January!
Up next: Three Women (started it and can already tell it’s going to be fascinating)
P.S. if you feel like “I don’t have enough time to read!” might I suggest you do what I’ve been doing — deleting Instagram off your phone throughout the day. Especially when little ones are home. You might be amazed how much more time you do have (I am!). Kids will do as we do, not as we say. Even if I’m not actively playing with them, I’m delighted to have them see Mom’s face stuck in a book.

I’ve found that reading instead of scrolling is the best plan of attack! We waste so much time. I’ll have to look into this book once I get through my stack of “to-reads”.

my new year resolution is to read at least 30 min a day before bed, and I love it!

Three women was so fascinating and so uncomfortable at times because I felt like I was spying into their lives. Some of the thoughts in it were so relatable and stuck with me.
I deleted all socials a year ago and it’s been pretty life changing for me. I ended up reading over 30 books last year which is a big deal for me—having four young kids at home. It was so freeing. Thanks for the book recommendation! Adding to my goodreads..

I just got Three Women out form the library- I’m so excited to start. I am reading a non-fiction now, Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow. One of the reports who broke the Harvey Weinstein story. It’s sooo compelling (and infuriating) to read about the brave women and journalists and the systems that worked to suppress their stories. Highly recommend.

ooh that sounds soooo interesting (and troubling!).

I just requested both e-books from the library — thanks for the recommendations! I’m reading one paper book (Beautiful Ruins) and one e-book (Silver Sparrow) right now and enjoying both. I always have an e-book going because when I’m plagued with hamster brain at 2 a.m., reading on my phone is the only way to turn off the cacophony of thoughts! My first book of the new year was City of Girls and I loved it.

You should include the title in your post(s) and/or flip your photo so it can be clearly read. Not everyone wants to click a link to find out the title!

oops. sorry!
