Last weekend before Christmas! How is everyone? I’m ready to relax, step away from job-like things, and just enjoy good food and family. But there’s a lot of wrapping to do before that…
Some weekend reading…
I made a version of these bowls last week. So delicious, simple, and healthy. I used ground pork, cauliflower and broccoli, and rice. Yum.
I made my first gluten-free cake –it was this flourless chocolate cake. It was so rich and decadent and delicious.
There’s a 40% off flash sale at Beautycounter, and it’s got some great things in it. The Counter+ skin favorites includes the full size peel and plus a cleansing stick (perfect for travel), charcoal mask, and an oil. And I’ve loved using this eyeshadow palette this season.
Pajamas on sale! And I love the options left.
I’m a bit of a self proclaimed Lego-hater. Here’s the thing–I think they can be fantastic for little ones’ brains. Following directions, problem-solving, etc. However, what so often happens, is once they’re built, my kids never touch them again because they’re afraid to break them. I’d so much rather they build with total freedom and creativity Break ’em apart, start over again. So, I bought these for Anders, along with this. I’m hopeful it will make me change my tune about Legos–or certain Legos, anyway.
Starting to get my ducks in a row today with meal planning for the next week. This will be either Christmas Eve dinner or Christmas dinner. It is so good. With these potatoes. Crowd pleaser, every time. I’ve made it for Easter too. Hey, when it works, it works.

That spot in Germany makes me want to give up ever trying to renovate my home, ha!
We are dipped our toes into Legos this year with a dedicated Lego table built by attaching those very same base plates to an old smaller coffee table with storage underneath. As kids, my brothers & I spent hours upon hours grouped around our own Lego table, and I would never introduce Legos to our kids without having something similar where a) the mess is confined and b) you can leave a project and return to it. Here’s hoping it works!
I make the Korean beef bowl from Damn Delicious once a week, served with my homemade kimchi, and it is absolutely gobbled up by every member of the household. It’s similar to those bowls you linked to! I also made her Instant Pot roast a few weeks ago, and it was genuinely one of the most divine, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth roasts I’ve made.
Happy Holidays!

Those Asian rice bowls look so good! I guess it’s because I’m Chinese, because I automatically love anything with rice haha! 😛

We have that Lego classic set and it’s great. My kids get to keep their lego all made up for a day or two before I break it down and that’s our family expectation — Lego is for making, not looking. Hope this works well for you!

I feel you on the legos. My boys both liked them for a time, but my youngest (now 9) was kind of obsessed for a few years. This is the first year he didn’t ask for any legos for Christmas. He has been spoiled by relatives that get him crazy expensive and elaborate sets. He’d spread them out on the dining room table for a week or 2 and then keep it pristine for so much time. Then of course we’d have to tell him it was time to break it down. He would and put them in bins and various ziplocks or Tupperware containers and inevitably loose some pieces along the way and perhaps loose the directions. They are all specialized sets though! Now they sit in my basement taking up lots of room and are pretty much rendered useless. He did like the classics for little while and I wish I could have just kept it to that. So much $ spent on those sets and they serve no purpose now and he never plays with them anymore. I wonder if there is a place to donate them or something. Throwing them out seems like a waste and I can’t try and resell cause they’re missing pieces.

Totally agree on the Legos!! Did a big box of classic last year too to avoid growing the LEGO museum.
