On a quiet evening, a weeknight, when we were without any extra guests up at the lake, we took off for a little evening ride. It was almost a year to the day of our last one. This year we didn’t pull up to Wolfeboro and go to a restaurant though. We just took the boat to the middle of the lake, turned it off, and hung out. I put on a playlist, we had a few White Claws (they’ve become my unofficial drink of the summer–black cherry, please), and we sat and talked. Date night faces. There’s something about being on the boat in the middle of the lake. With the two of us, and same goes for the kids. There’s so little distraction. No one to walk in on your conversation. There’s nowhere to go. Limited space, no wifi, you end up just being with one another in a way you’re not elsewhere. It was so nice doing that with Steve. It’s always nice to be reassured, a gentle little nudge, ah yes in fact we do really like one another. Last year at about this time, I was going to leave for Greece to meet Steve soon after getting home. I was so nervous about leaving the kids, that talking through some of my anxieties was a big part of our conversation. (As I read that back, I’m hoping I don’t sound too ridiculous.) This year, nothing on the horizon taking up too much space in my brain. The way I prefer it, really. These lake sunsets feel like a gift straight from God.When he grabbed that shirt to wear, I said “I know you wore that same one last year.” I looked at the post, and sure enough! He likes what he likes. There wasn’t another boat on the water the entire time we were out there, and we ended up jumping in before we went back to the house for the night. Night swimming off the boat in the middle of the lake with my favorite guy was a highlight of the trip for me.
Outfit: this top / these jeans; I’m digging a the colorful options this season. I love this top and check out how cute the back of this one is.

“ah yes in fact we do really like one another”…that was the exact comment I made when my husband and I returned from an overdue, much needed little weekender. It’s amazing how the routine of day to day life can get in the way of that feeling. What a lovely evening!

right? it’s necessary to have the reminder from time to time.
