01. colorblock sweaters. especially this one. it’s got the perfect turtleneck too (a more difficult thing to achieve than one might think.). honorable mention: this one in brown (i love the contrast neck!). and above slippers here.
02. star is born. steve and i saw it with friends a couple weeks ago and i really enjoyed it. bradley cooper’s voice alone. and i don’t just mean his singing voice. but his speaking voice! that low, gravelly, husky way he did his voice! how?! anyway, that movie gave me full body chills and tears so, job well done. lady gaga was terrific too, but he really stole the show. and shallow? so good. (that said, it wasn’t my favorite movie everrrrrrr. there were different story lines i wanted to go deeper on but, even so, i think it’ll win some awards!)
03. a new partnership i’m working on with melissa and doug about the value of play in children. i am really excited about it because a) we genuinely love melissa and doug and our house has so many of their toys already and b) the value of screen-free play?! how important play and imagination is for kids? this is so up my alley and partnerships that are such easy fits like this are my favorite. i’ll be heading to nyc soon to see the melissa and doug showroom, to visit the new fao schwarz at 30 rock, and attending a roundtable discussion with parents magazine and melissa herself. i’ll share on instagram as i go, and there’ll be a giveaway coming in time for the holidays so stay tuned!!
04. sourdough. man. i went to a sourdough class last week taught my my friend sara’s husband. i had no idea sourdough was so complex! the thing is… i suspect that once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy. or at least makes sense to the mind and is easily to figure out how to trouble-shoot/what went wrong/how to fix. but as of now, it’s so new to me that i am INTIMIDATED. i have a starter (went home w/ on saturday!) sitting in my microwave that i’ve been feeding for a few days (and checking on like every few hours, like a brand new infant baby’s bowel movements guys, seriously) and i even bought a kitchen scale off amazon for this. i am determined to figure this out and make a gorgeous, delicious loaf of sourdough (and then more and more if my starter keeps going!). if successful i will feel like such a homesteader and probably start dressing like ma in little house on the prairie. wish me luck. and give me all your tips.
p.s. i’d be remiss to post away without speaking to how heavy so many of us are feeling right now. as a bystander to the tragedy happening (particularly in california right now–from the thousand oaks shooting to the wildfires), and then our president’s inhumane response, it is just so sad. it feels like awful things are happening rapid fire these days and it’s hard to know how to properly respond, or whether to at all. please find a charity you care about, a go fund me, a firefighter relief page, and give whatever you can. and if any of you have been affected personally or know someone who has, please send it my way (either in the comments below, or by emailing itsahuntlife@gmail.com).

Yay! I’m excited to hear about your partnership; children and play is close to my heart! I seriously wondered how long it would take for a new FAO Schwarz to open; I visited their 5th Ave store just before it closed its doors.
AND, a sourdough class!!! Totally the best; once you’ve got it down, I’m coming to visit!

Wow! This Melissa and Doug partnership sounds amazing. I can’t wait to see more on this. I am so all about screen free child-led play 🙂 I’ve been super impressed with everything that we own from them

Hey!! I spent a few months last year learning about sourdough. The starter (stir several times throughout the day, feed once or twice a day for the most fluffy bubbles and the softest most delicious dough), the forming method (go to Katie180.au I think? Google it…you’ll find her! Her method for sourdough is LEGEND.) Literally every single method that I tried I got a flat boring meh loaf of bread. But hers….the best ever. I will never go with another method again!! The starter can be kept sealed in the fridge for a LONG time and then revived by discarding half, feeding, and then letting sit on the counter overnight. Bingo fresh fluffy starter! I just keep mine in the fridge until I’m ready to use it and then take it out the day before and its always fresh and bubbly! Make sure you have a tight fitting but not too tight fitting lid or else you might get fruit flies in your starter! NOTHING is sadder! The whole thing has to be tossed at the process restarted. I”m doing a few months of gluten free right now so I’m not using my starter but Try these tips…and feel free to message me if you have questions! I’m a bit of an expert after making TONS of mistakes! lol

As someone who is directly affected by the fires-your response about the President truly diminishes your well wishes. Maybe we disagree with him, but a sincere concern does not need to include something political.

I live in Thousand Oaks so not only have I been affected by the shooting, but also the wildfires. Agoura is my hometown. I thought Trumps comment was not only ignorant and inaccurate (we don’t live in a forest down here, it’s urban and made up of chaparel) but also completely devoid of empathy. Threatening to withhold funding to those who lost their homes and lives IS inhumane. I stand with the true heroes (our firefighters) and their statement to Trump. I would urge you to do some research on what causes fires in the state of California, like temperature , drought, and wind speed.
Megan says
Additionally, bridgets statement reads sincere to the majority of California’s who were deeply saddened by not only the fires but our presidents blame on us.

Feels refreshing to actually see a blogger as big as Bridget make a statement that includes politics in her post. As another Californian directly affected by the fires, with friends who have lost their homes from the Camp fire, I can’t imagine anything more inhumane than what Trump said in the midst of such severe devestation. Why anyone still backs him is beyond my understanding.

I think you’d really like the organization I work for…Playworks. We’re a national non-profit whose mission statement is “We believe in the power of play to bring out the best in every kid.” We work at recess to help make it safer and more inclusive for kids, and in some cases, just make sure it’s happening. Anyways, just thought you’d like to know that it exists and there is a New England office, if you ever want to advocate for your school to have a training for teachers on why play is important/how to facilitate it.

They sound amazing. Especially that mission!!!! And I’d love to check them out more!

Sourdough! I hope it’s going well. You talking about your starter immediately made me think of the book Sourdough. If you haven’t heard of it, the author also wrote the Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, which I think is more likely for someone to hear of.
