I didn’t intend to take quite the break(s) that I ended up taking from blogging this summer. But the guilt that plagued me much of the spring when I felt like I was on my computer too much is gone and for that I am very grateful. I do believe we’ve soaked up this summer. Wait! It’s not over yet. I’m not through with it, and I don’t think it’s through with me. There’s lots of updating to do here, but first things first… back to the lake. In the strange way that time sometimes moves, high speed as you try to chase it down, and then through a thick slow motion, our time at the lake feels somewhat faraway. These pictures will help jog my memory, though. We had a rainy day, maybe two, but it gave this misty cloud covered scene over the lake that made it feel like an altogether different place than its normal sunshine, boats zooming past appearance. In a word, or three–we welcomed it. Breaks in the rain allowed for some cute pictures on the dock too. He loves his Superman shirt, hand me down from cousin Quinn! Second to the pictures of the two of them eating breakfast together in the morning, these are my favorite. Little boys in their element. Looking under moss, rocks, such discoveries to be made. Since we were there for two weeks, there was plenty of time for this slow-down stuff: cards and reading and investigating the dirt. We decided a few years ago, after renting for one week, that by Wednesday when you’re really starting to settle into your lake-time, it’s halfway over. So, it’s been two weeks ever since. I could make it four, to be honest. (Our funds, not so much.) I really, really like being their person. Cousins (boy-heavy family, as you can see; sorry Lindsey! She handles it well, though.) Eating at the town docks in Meredith. A lively spot on the lake with good food too. You dine at colorful picnic tables, lakefront, right on the sand. After dinner, it’s ice cream. This boy loves his Dad.Lindsey and I could not coordinate swinging Anders down the dock, even with a “1, 2, 3, swing!” so here we are laughing at the absurdity. My sister and nephews. Can I just say that living near cousins/family is pretty amazing? Sometimes my whispers to the ice cream scooper, “Make it small. Like a kiddie. But smaller” don’t always pay off.
He was happy about it though. Sunset boat rides are the best. From left to right: William, my cousin Christian, cousin Asher, sister Meghan, my Mom, me (duh), my Uncle Ted, and my Aunt Alice (my Mom’s sister) Last night, we mourned with sparklers. A first for this guy! We hope to get up there once or twice more before the lake is officially shut down for winter. Our love for it is endless. See you soon, Lake Winnipesaukee!
