i’ve been jotting down noteworthy (to me) things in various places over the last month or so… in my composition book that goes everywhere with me, texting myself, journals… you know… those absurdly cute things kids do or say that are gone as quickly as they arrived. how they said a particular word, the way they swung one arm way more than the other when they walked. it’s impossible to get them all down, but here is my attempt!
01. the giggling they were doing in the bathtub together the other day. over the top giggling. luckily i got this one on video.
02. anders, after just watching a daniel tiger episode, took my face in his hands and rubbed noses together saying, “ugga mugga.”
03. being mystery reader this week in parker’s class and his rosy cheeks that were equal parts beaming and all shy/embarrassed when i walked in. he sat in the front of the class with me, two little seats, where i read this story and then he got to call on his friend’s to talk about the characters and the plot. you could just tell he was so happy to have me there. when we walked out of the classroom together, he held my hand and immediately requested that dad sign up to do it as well. then, when we got home, he was all hugs and wanting to ‘talk about it’. his sweetness is over the top lately.
04. the way parker hugs anders and i when he leaves for school on the days steve drives him, and wants us both in the front window to wave to him. he’s very intentional about asking, “now make sure you’re both in the front window, ok?” it’s a process and it is the sweetest process. we also have a secret handshake that we do every time he leaves (and every night in bed).
05. when anders has hiccups, he becomes very distressed and says, “what is happnin’ meeee!?”
06. i did an arm workout on youtube recently and parker wanted to be a part of it so we found a kid one next. he had two cans of black beans for the weights and did the whole thing. one workout later, and he goes to open a heavy door while out and exclaims, “that door was so much easier. i really am stronger!”
07. anders’ hips swiveling to the max while he runs.
08. parker needed a band aid recently and quietly, anders goes into the kitchen, moves the stool and all to get the bandaids himself, and says very seriously under his breath, “i’m a doctor.”
09. anders has been talking about bedbugs lately. asking what they are, do we have them. i had no idea where it was coming from then i figured it out. “prince of jeefus” (prince of egypt). parker had to translate for him. now i get him to say prince of jeefus every chance i get.
10. sneaking in the bathroom reeeeeally quietly and reaching my hand in to make the water cold during parker’s shower without him seeing me. he was so confused and when he discovered it was me we both died laughing.
11. william’s friends coming over and anders heading to the basement very determined, “i have to show them my transformer!!!”
12. moving anders into another bed, fast asleep, and he wakes up just enough to say, “where is my transformer?!” i put it back in his hands, and he falls asleep smiling.
13. parker, “i’ve never really gotten to wake up next to anders.” (i pointed out that he has, but he meant just the two of them in the bed alone, no adults.) he wants to do this.
14. anders is always trying to gauge my reaction when he knows i’m upset with him about something. he does this sort of nervous giggle, “you happy mama?!?”
15. anders getting playdough out and going to grab all the playdough tools himself. “good idea, anders!” i say. “yes, that is a good idea!”
16. anders telling me, “you’re a funny girl. you’re not a girl. you’re just mom. you’re not bridget. you’re just mom.” like this confused conversation he was having only with himself.
17. parker was dying to know what the three clues i gave to his teacher were when i walked in as mystery reader. i pretended very seriously that they were things like, “my son has really stinky toots.” sometimes i get down with potty humor just because the fits of giggles they have are so worth it.
18. parker saying he’s “waving his nose flaps” when he’s flaring his nostrils.
19. the way anders says hotel. so hard to write it, but it’s got this southern twang about it… “ho-tayyyl.” we try to get him to say it every chance we get.
that’s all for now.

Gosh, I get this feeling so much I felt the tears coming when I read this post! I have a three and a half year old and was just telling a co-worker about how adorably he said “activities” when I asked him last night what he did at school that day. They’re just so precious!!

Adore every single one of these and am all the more convinced Anders and Joaquim would be besties 🙂 Ugga Mugga! Melt into a puddle when they do that! Literally laughed out loud in my cubicle to #s 6 & 8! Prince of Jeefus is a hit in our home too 🙂 Also the “You happy mama??” thing! For me it usually instantly comes with mom guilt because, let’s face it, they rarely ask when we are do they? 😉 Waving his nose flaps?! lol so cute. Random question but when did Parker transition from strictly bathtub to showering? Mia ( my 5 year old) is oddly scared of the shower lol wondering when people make that transition/let them bathe themselves?

I’ve never commented before, but now I have to! The “hotel” comment hit home. My 6 year old STILL says “ho towel”. We’ve corrected him innumerable times, but now I hope he never stops his personal interpretation of the word. His 3 year old brother says it too now… (“Mom, when we going to go stay in a ho towel again?”)

When my daughter was Anders age the way she said watermelon was hysterical. She sang this song “Down by the Bay” with watermelon in the lyrics and I’d make her sing it every night and dinner so we could all laugh. I wish I had thought to record it.
