I took this picture on a quick 24 (just under, but we’ll round up) trip I was lucky enough to take at theeeee best in the hotel world–LARK! (Sound familiar? Remember this?) They’re wonderful, their hotels are gorgeous, and I just really like them. Anyway, it’s been almost a year since I’ve done a taking stock post. I’ve always liked them as they give a good overall of where I’m at and what life looks like at a point in time. So, let’s do another.
Making: well, last night I made breakfast for dinner; I’m in a rut (but I did include these which are a favorite of all). But I might make this salad soon. It’s a favorite at Fred’s inside Barney’s NY and I discovered it in my NYTimes Cooking email. Even if I don’t make the recipes enough to justify the $5/month charge, I absolutely love reading the emails. They lead me to fun articles like this. I also think I’m going to make this tonight too.
Drinking: This green tea. If you’re not a green tea fan, this one has a bit of licorice root which sweetens it just a touch.
Reading: Not much, but I am sloooowly plugging away on this big book. It really is so good, but I find that I can go two weeks without touching it, which I guess is not a ringing endorsement (but truly is more indicative of the level of busy in my life–not the book’s quality. It truly is good!)
Wanting: an awesome new bathing suit; now that it is truly my first summer with post nursing boobs, it’s time to figure out what works for them best. Also, can we talk about the sad state of post nursing boobs? RIP old boobs, RIP.
Watching: HANDMAID’S TALE OF COURSE. And also, Homeland with Steve. But HANDMAID’S TALE. (True story: after the last episode I woke up at 3 am stressing about it. And yet I love it and will never miss an episode.)
Listening: Greta Van Fleet. I was into older stuff in middle school and high school–partly older sisters, and my classic-rock loving Dad, and then my high school was just like all about throwback music. Grateful Dead and the Doors were all the rage and so, I grew up with a steady diet of Led Zeppelin and the like. Well, discovered GVF the other day and… they sound so much like Zeppelin. So much that I’m curious how Robert Plant feels about this band (apparently okay–I had to do some googling because I was so thrown off by the similarity.) All that aside: these guys are good.
Wishing: that I could keep Parker in half days forever.
Enjoying: watching the boys playing in the backyard. The other day I asked them to put some stuff in the mailbox for me. Parker asked Anders to come along and I watched as he so cutely directed Anders to the mailbox, handed him the mail, and then lifted him so he could put it in. Their love is probably the greatest thing I’ve ever witnessed.
Loving: using the Headspace app when I can’t sleep.
Hoping: for nice weather for Mother’s Day.
Needing: more sleep.
Feeling: some of the inevitable stress of parenting. It ain’t easy.
Wearing: these, like every day, and when I slip my feet into them I can’t stop exclaiming what a good purchase I made.

I just stopped nursing my youngest about two weeks ago and it’s the first time in 3 years 8 months that I haven’t been pregnant and/or nursing, so I feel you on those post-breastfeeding boobs. Nothing like taking that Third Love quiz to figure out what size you are and having to click on “relaxed” as your shape. They should just rename them “sad post-breastfeeding pancake boobs.”
bridget says
haha, yes. mine have been basically destroyed from years of nursing! i feel you!

Had an actual LOL moment reading these. My boobs shouldn’t be “relaxed” at 26!! Motherhood struggles

Yes that Handmaids Tale! I was surprised at how upset I was after that last episode. I was so disappointed. And also dreading this week because you know there will be some sort of awful punishment.

YES. i am scared to watch what she has to face when she returns to gilead.

I purchased those shoes just because you recommended them and I wasn’t let down in the slightest! I absolutely love them. For sure my go to shoe this summer.

we said the SAME THING about GVF!!! Actually the radio host (when the song ended the first time we heard one) said something like “and there’s the new one by Led Zepplin” and we turned to each other like WHAT EVEN. And then he goes “just kidding but don’t they sound so alike?!”
ANYway, rambling aside, really loving GVF as well 😛
bridget says
seriously. i can imagine some serious LZ fans hearing GVF and thinking there was some secret record from the vault released. they are SO SIMILAR. Flower Power is on repeat these days.

my parents are deadheads and I was able to go see them 3x in Las Vegas back when I was in the 5th grade. It will always be one of my favorite memories with my parents and sister.
bridget says
that is so so fun. that sounds a little like when i went to a crosby stills and nash concert w/ my parents and i was in middle school!

Pillars of the Earth is my favorite book! It starts out slowly, but you’ll get to the parts where you can’t put it down. I just finished the last of the series, also BIG, also amazing.
Kim says
Is there any other way besides Hulu to watch it?
bridget says
I don’t think so, but wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being on Amazon at some point?

Love your Taking Stock posts !
Found out about GVF a couple days ago, they are so good, cool that they’re brothers too !! Here’s Robert Plant’s opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePIAaQwYMaM&index=1&list=RDszRtDiYpD94.
bridget says
based his whole style on Aerosmith, ha. Not buying what you’re selling GVF. Love them just the same!

Pillars of the Earth is one of my favorite books ever! You have to be in the right frame of mind to read it since it’s a huge novel. I actually remember reading it after one of my kids was born. During late night nursing or pumping episodes…ha! Keep working on it though…it’s such a winner!
