Thinking about seeing A Wrinkle In Time this weekend with Lindsey. Anyone seen it? Like it? And then, Parker’s spring sports begin! Too bad the weather is not following suit yet. It’s so cold! What are you up to?
Some weekend reading…
These noodle bowls were recommended when I asked for some recipes last week. On my list!
This, similar to a noodle bowl, is on our menu almost once a week (I don’t use oyster sauce; mostly because I don’t have it on hand. Also, I add extra broth to make it more ramen like.). Now I want these spoons!
But, back to my request for recipes, I think what I meant to ask for was more of a ramen bowl. I am obsessed with ramen but there’s no place to get it closer than about 20 minutes from my house. (Savage, I know.) Anyone made this?
How to win an argument about guns.
Just bought Parker a jump rope for Easter and pulled out our own to show him. Dang, it’s a workout! Going to try to add this to my routine, especially as summer comes and we’re outside more.
This soup looks so good.
I have South Africa on the brain. I’d LOVE to see all five of these. (And an elephant. How badly I want to see an elephant in the wild!!)
A “free range parenting” law was just passed. I, for one, am for it when appropriate! (Thanks, Sylvia.)
Omg, omg, omg, I need to stay here. Like have to.
Already ordered and CANNOT WAIT FOR MOVIE NIGHT! (4 more days!)
I would love to drink my coffee (or even wine!) from these.
Have a good weekend!

I’m also a fan of letting kids do things on their own within reason. People are too fearful and judgemental. Awhile ago a woman scolded me in the grocery parking lot for leaving my 4-year old in the car strapped into her car seat…..for about three minutes while I pushed the shopping cart to the cart return cage. I mean, it’s just getting ridiculous. As parents we know our children better than anyone else does. Some 7-year olds may be mature enough to walk to the park alone, some may not, let the parents assess and decide without fear of someone calling the police.

Since Steve is a religion professor, I highly recommend Durban, South Africa! I majored in religion and studied abroad there. Although I didn’t know that much about the area going in, it turned out to be the perfect spot! Durban has a large Indian population, so on top of Christianity, there are Hindu and Muslim influences, plus the traditional African religions. I found the dynamics so fascinating. Plus, it’s close to the Drakensberg Mountains (gorgeous) and Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, where you can see all the animals! Also, you’d need to go to Oribi Gorge and do the highest cliff swing in the world! It was scary, but the most fun thing I have ever done. I never made it over to Cape Town – I’ve heard it’s beautiful, but very westernized (aka white).

This post made me so hungry! Saving those noodle recipes for sure. I made a really similar meatball soup last weekend with ground turkey instead of chicken and added Parmesan rind and porcini mushrooms to up the umami factor. 6 adults devoured the entire Dutch oven’s worth of soup in less than 15 minutes. It’s making my recipe hall of fame.
Again…soo hungry now.

I live in Cape Town, South Africa and absolutely love it, I never take it for granted – the lifestyle and the views and the Mediterranean climate, and the great vineyards. The other day my daughter went kayaking in the sea with her dad and two massive whales came up from under the water near them, blowing water. She said she had gooseflesh and could feel the vibration as they went under and back up to blow water, she was in tears and said it was an incredible experience. They often see dolphins when they kayak. That soup recipe looks so hearty and good, I am going to try and make it some time, and I love those earrings you linked, am going to have to look out for something similar here! I must tell you, I never miss your weekend links, thank you!

South Africa is the best!! I might be biased since i-m from there! The exchange rate is totally in your favour 😉 Cape Town is amazing for tourists – beach, mountains, a rich mix of cultures and wine. All the wine! There are so many amazing options to see wildlife, but if you want to see big tuskers in the wild then Tembe Elephant Park is the place. I went there on my honeymoon and it was amazing!
