1. Summer humidity… if for no other reason than summer hair. Instead of blowdrying and trying to fight it, I’m just working with the humidity and letting it air dry. I’ve had a bunch of you direct message me like, “woah, curly hair?” and yes! I guess I do have sort of curly-ish hair–particularly in this weather. Others have asked what I’ve been using. Over the years it’s changed a bit, but what I’ve been using pretty exclusively this summer (and one of my favorites for the smell alone) is this sea spray. I just towel dry, spray it, scrunch, and go. That is truly it. It’s nice because doing my hair is probably my least favorite thing about the getting ready process. If I ever drag my feet to shower it’s because inevitably hair comes next. (Second least favorite getting-ready activity is doing my eyebrows. Is that weird? I hate doing them.)
2. This Instagram account. I so appreciate IG accounts that have a pretty sweet setup but are also transparent about the tough stuff and how all is not as it seems all the time (while also admitting that it can be and is often pretty awesome). This fits the bill, plus some crazy beautiful scenery too. Have I mentioned I am quite literally chomping at the bit to get to British Columbia? I’m pretty sure I have.
3. Probably these pajamas that we all need that are also on sale. I’ve wanted a pair like this–the sort of two-piece old school pajama forever and I still don’t own any. Almost yearly, usually wintertime, I put them in my cart at J.Crew and then decide against them because they’re too expensive and I can’t spend that much on pajamas.
4. The Alex Somers Captain Fantastic soundtrack. Will I stop talking about this movie? No. Never. Don’t ask again.
5. This zucchini ricotta galette. I usually stay away from anything dough/baking related in my cooking. Even when I make a chicken pot pie I use puff pastry. But this looks so good and I love zucchini in the summertime. Should I attempt it? How hard is this dough? Better question, who will make this for me?

Ah, I hate the humidity! It’s turned right up here in Hong Kong, which makes my hair frizz all over. It’s pretty much 100% humidity level everyday. Wish I could embrace the weather like you are!

I have been meaning to make a smitten kitchen galette for ages! I had this one saved in my bookmarks:
https://smittenkitchen.com/2015/11/roasted-leek-and-white-bean-galettes/
But the zucchini + ricotta version looks delicious too. Hoping a bunch of people comment soon to say how easy they are so I can motivate myself to finally make them!

have made all the smitten kitchen galettes. they are all amazing. my only tip is make on a cookie sheet with a lip on it in case butter leaks out of your dough like mine did and then drips onto the bottom of the oven and makes the kitchen smoky and then the smoke alarm goes off.

and that is a very good tip.

I love that Smitten Kitchen galette. It’s delicious! Agreed that it’s easier to bake on a cookie sheet and would highly recommend lining it with baking parchment. The dough is pretty easy. I don’t have a pastry blender and I either make the dough in a food processor (whiz the butter into the flour and then turn out into a bowl and stir through the water) or with my hands.

First of all, LOVED Captain Fantastic. Not what I was expecting. At all. Loved it so hard. I’m a little granola northwest girl, so it was my cup of tea.
Speaking of, you keep talking about wanting to go to the northwest. Do it! It’s one of the most glorious places in the world. Go to Seattle. Eat all the things. The San Juan Islands. All the harbors! Go to Whistler. Go to Banff. See the Oregon Coast. Really seriously spend some time in Mt. Rainier National Park. Maybe just summit the dang mountain (okay, that one takes some training). You probably have dozens of followers out here who would give you tons of recommendations. I haven’t even mentioned the food.

it is soooooo going to happen in the coming years–sooner than later i hope! in part we haven’t gone bc steve lived in vancouver for awhile back in the day and has seen it all (loves it there, mind you) but we keep going to places that neither of us have been first!

Target has nice pajama sets. The last couple of years I’ve gotten them for my sisters for Christmas for like $25.

I feel like my hair is so similar! I hate blow drying and it takes centuries for it to air dry in the inter so I’m making the most of the summer heat at the moment – leaves me with very similar curls x

Those J. Crew pajamas are so worth it! I have two pairs, a long and short sleeves, and they are my favorite! Besides sleeping in leggings, of course
