Last week we got the most snow we’ve gotten all winter. How much? I’m not really sure; it was inches on top of inches on top of inches, a few storms. Snow days and delayed openings and now it’s 50s, and it’s all melting away. I like when it’s here, and I like when it goes. The allure of a fresh snow, clean and ready to be discovered, is a stark contrast to it’s dinginess a week (or better yet two or three) later.
It wouldn’t be fair to call this winter a tough one. Aside from being down an arm for a good chunk of it, it’s been mild and we’ve made it through relatively unscathed. Lately, if the weather’s not too cold, we’ve taken walks. When it’s covered in snow and the sidewalks are practically tunnels–especially at Anders’ height–it feels like a new neighborhood altogether. It’s hard to imagine what it looks like in the summer time but soon enough the gradual change will begin, and I’ll think, “Ah yes. This is the sunshine through the leaves.” We go around a block, come to an intersection, and decide whether we want to carry on or not. Parker stomps in a slushy puddle, Anders reaches his hand out to grab some snow–and this is where it’s crucial that I successfully got his thumb in the thumb-spot on his mitten; otherwise there’s no pincher grasp potential–and throws it down. Eventually we make our way home. This day, sacred, this winter, the only winter where Anders is 2 and Parker 5 and I’m glad we got outside, even if only for a bit.
{P.S. Our favorite kid-mittens are these ones on Amazon!}

We haven’t gotten hardly any snow and while I love the warm weather, I kind of want one good snow and then for it to magically go back to 60 degrees!
