I’m always trying to figure out THE gift. It’s so much fun to have many things filling the space under the tree but how many of them really get used all year long? (I shudder to think of the answer.) What are the winners? Here’s some that I hope (and think) are pretty special. Please tell me if you’ve got any awesome ones on your list this year.
For the nostalgic person / a coordinate or date bracelet so she can walk around with her wedding date or the coordinates of the place she gave birth
For your husband’s office / a beautiful brass easel calendar to take him through the year
For the child who loves to read / a book tailored specifically to his or her name (we just received two for the boys from a dear friend and they’re really awesome.)
For your cool friend who likes natural products / a box of gooorgeous natural bath bombs
For your sister, a fellow Mom, who’s always in and out of the car / these cozy mittens (that she wouldn’t buy herself; and Steve! Listen up. I want these.)
For your mom who’s always cold (or is that just mine?) / this cozy throw-on sweater; I have it in robe form and i look forward to putting it on every morning and evening
For your technology loving teen / the firestick (or at least, this is one of the things on william’s list); so are these… chaaa-ching!
For your teen daughter (or maybe yourself?) / a great pair of booties that are on sale; wear them all the time except when it’s really snowing
For your kids, any of them / magnatiles; we keep ours upstairs (once built, Anders isn’t the best at leaving them intact) and Parker goes upstairs so often to play with them for almost an hour! I remember cringing at the cost, but I do think they’re worth it.
For the teachers at school who greet you and your child with a smile every day / this candle; I’ve smelled it and it is perfection.
For your neighbors (only if you don’t have time to actually bake) / this cookie mix in a jar; Trader Joe’s does it again! Pair with a poinsettia and you’re set.
For your friend who is always hosting and serving you delicious food / this stunning pie plate (or anything from this shop; it’s the best.)
This isn’t an all-inclusive list, no doubt, but you’re being bombarded with other gift guides at the moment I’m sure. So it’s a start, anyway. What’s the gift you’re most excited about giving (or getting) this year?

Magnatiles, without question. They were allotted the 8 lbs in our suitcases when we moved over here to Rome for the year. They’re THAT GOOD.

I really like your gift ideas. But for you and all the parents out there planning to buy a candle, mug, truffles, or bring a plate of homemade cookies to your child’s teacher…please, don’t! Think of being on the receiving end of 25 of these types of gifts. Instead, have your child make a card and enclose cash or a gift card to a local grocery store. Teachers are people too and they could use a little extra at this time of year. (If you’re really organized and caring, next year organize the entire parent body to drop off cash donations in November and then divide the full amount between every employee of the school from principal to custodian.)
