jackets! let’s talk about jackets. the not very warm, the warm(ish), and the snow blizzard ones. it’s that time of year…jacket: gap / sweater: crippen-la / scarf: marshalls / jeans: uo / shoes: nordstrom
this time of year, in the boston-area anyway, you can leave the house and it’s 40 degrees and return home and it’s 60 degrees. layers, my friends. i like pairing this more summery jean jacket over a sweater and adding a scarf.
i can’t find this exact jean jacket anymore (though i am pretty sure i blogged about it ad nauseum when i did buy it because i was certain (and still am) that it’s the perfect jean jacket. if i were still shopping for a jean jacket, i’d get this more boyfriend-one. it’s amazing. and i read something about angelina jolie’s travel shoe, which made these an easy sell for me. she always looks so good!
jacket (on sale!): nordstrom / chambray: old navy / jean skirt: jcrew / shoes: c/o lotta
next up, a jacket that packs a bit more punch than a jean jacket. so why i paired it with bare legs is beyond me but let’s overlook that and move on. these quilted jackets i’m seeing a lot of are awesome. for another in the medium category, i loooove this one. also, for those of you considering a pair of lottas, they are seriously comfortable. these don’t hurt my feet at all (compared to hasbeens which do!).
now we bring out the big guns…
flannel: j.crew / jeans (similar): nordstrom / shoes: zappos / jacket: j.crew
i bought this jacket, properly dubbed the nordic parka, last year when i decided a legitimate warm jacket was a necessity for these cold boston winters (and that this one was completely out of my price range and would forever be). i wondered if buying a jacket at j.crew was a good idea, as opposed to a real outdoor store, but after reading reviews and using a 30% off (gap and j.crew have so many sales, i almost always wait for one.), i decided on this one. it is warm! and substantial. this will be my second winter with it, and i’m much less afraid of the winters now that i’ve got this.
here’s a few more of my favorite jackets in the light to heavy category. keep warm, my friends!

I’m hanging on your every word – you are a trustworthy jacket knowledge source being from Boston! I’m surprised that you say you didn’t have a true winter coat before – how did you deal??? I mean, I didn’t until a couple years ago but I lived in PA at the time so it was not a huge deal, and I didn’t do a lot of walking. But when I started thinking about having the right pieces, I invested in a waterproof ski jacket that was cute enough for everyday wear. It’s from LL Bean and super warm but a little snug – I went skiing in it and couldn’t zip it up over my chin, which I loathed. Anyways, loved this post and would love to read your other jacket recommendations as well, because for some reason I’m oddly into jackets? I don’t know.
