one. bootstraps (as in the band). a reader told me about them in a comment recently and i’m so glad i looked them up (and that she told me!). they’re all really good. the covers are fantastic! start with earned it. i’ve had them on repeat.
two. reading chapter books to kids. parker and i just started pippi longstocking. he thinks it’s hilarious–she has a horse on her porch! and a monkey named mr. nilsson riding around on her shoulder! when i read the part about how she doesn’t have any parents and can stay up as late as she wants, he said something along the lines of, “i still am glad i live with you.” (thanks, parker. i’m glad too.) we’ll watch the movie after we finish (and i remember LOVING it; for some reason her washing her house with the scrub brushes attached to her feet still is in my memory.). i can’t wait.
three. this tiny tags necklace that i’m wearing above (and in a lot of pictures recently). it has EVERYONE’S initials on it. mine and steve’s on one side, and all the kids on the other. i love it. (cue sweet thing by van morrison) when i brush parker’s teeth at night, he flips it around in his hand looking at all the initials. (he asked me why gracie’s wasn’t on it at one point! sorry buddy, dogs don’t get a spot–especially with the amount of names we have!). thank you tiny tags!!
four. the sweaters here. all of them! i could fill my closet with sweaters of the neutral variety and still want more.
five. pomegranates. i bought my first two the other day and they were delicious. it took me a full 30 minutes to remove each and every seed but it’s all the more satisfying that way. (bonus: makes for a good kid-activity. parker sat and did it for awhile the other day.)

just a tip regarding the pomegranates – to get the seeds out more quickly (and with less hazard of clothing stains!) cut the fruit in half, take one half and sort of spread the membrane/side of the fruit away from the center and apart to loosen the seeds and the white inside surrounding the seeds. Then! Tilt the open side of that half over a bowl and whack the back of the pomegranate with a wooden spoon and like magic, all the seeds fall into the bowl beneath. It will still be fun for Parker and it’s just so efficient 🙂
Loving all those sweaters on Aritzia too.

Yes! I came to the comments section just to give this tip! It takes about a minute compared to 20+ minutes the other way. Here is a video demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d9u4J8J9rU It has been life-changing (in terms of eating pomegranates, anyway!).

I love pomegranates too! Dug right into them a few weeks ago. It is like we picked up were we left off last fall, all stained fingers and all!

i know, the stained fingers! one part i don’t love. (and that i’m so afraid of staining my clothing that i’d like to wear a hazmat suit while i eat them.

If you like Bootstraps, try Bahamas. My favorites are All The Time and Lost in the Light, but it’s pretty much all good. Great, mellow cloudy-day or glass-a-wine music.

Ha– read and watched Pippi with my boys last month and we all loved it as much as I did when I was a kid! That opening chapter drew us in instantly — better than any other I can remember. Like you said, not having to go to bed just when you’re having the most fun?? My kids did NOT make any comments about wanting to maintain their current lives. I left the room to get a reading snack after that first chapter and Bob & O sat SILENTLY pondering, happens never.
ANYWAY seeing Pippi here makes me think maybe we should be friends! Also because we moved to Glosta this summer and any friend of laura’s is a friend of mine! And because momhood can get lonely and pippreciation can be hard to find 😉

Pippreciation! I love that. And yes! Another friend of mine just moved to Gloucester too!

I loved Pippi when I was a child, and your mentioning reminded me I meant to recommend a book for Anders on a previous post! I think he’d love ‘Mister Magnolia’ – my 21 month old loves it; have you read it?
