1// Breaking Bad: I’m finally watching this how many years after it aired? I don’t even know. I tried it, sometime after I had Parker, and only a few episodes in there was a scene that was too upsetting to me (#wuss). In my defense, I think when I’m newly postpartum I have a harder time watching certain things. So, I revisited and now I’m into Season 4. It’s such a good show, though completely crazy and troubling too. And complicated! I feel like we could unpack the decisions Walt and Jeses are making and the morality of them for days. (Should we start something of a Breaking Bad book-club?)
2// The new Bon Iver: I listened to it most of Saturday and it is so good. Some of it is a little electronic for my taste, but I think it’s going to grow on me. You?
3// This soup: You know that broccoli cheddar soup from Panera that’s so good but definitely made with some funky orange Velveeta cheese but you just don’t want to quit it because, I’ll say it again, it’s so good? Well this might be better. Or very damn close. And so, so much better for you. Side note: I used frozen broccoli florets instead of fresh and it was still delicious. This is going into regular rotation this winter.
4// This pumpkin bread: It’s the only one I make from scratch (and one of the only things that I bake from scratch period) and there’s no point looking elsewhere because it is good. I made it yesterday with some of Anders’ help (he can dump a teaspoon of cloves like it ain’t no thing!) and added some chocolate chips too. Bonus is that it makes two loaves. We’re keeping one and sharing the other with our neighbor.

I have to admit that I struggled through the early seasons of Breaking Bad. The wife got on my nerves, and the whole thing was so dark and sad. But then! Shit got real, and I got hooked. It still wasn’t a feel-good show to be sure, but it was so fascinating, and yes, I do think we could discuss the morality and motivations for weeks. Enjoy!
I’m bookmarking the pumpkin bread recipe – I love having one that uses up the entire can of pumpkin! (I hate it when it only calls for a cup, and I’m like “well what do I do with the rest?!?”) And it’s fall in Massachusetts – it’s pumpkin bread time.

So much to say about this post!!! I watched Breaking Bad years ago, and I started it around when I first become pregnant (but I didn’t know it yet). I had such a hard time getting into it because I was such a mess with some of the things that were happening. It was almost as if it was giving me anxiety. Once I learned I was pregnant, all of the crazy emotions made sense, but it is still CRAZY all the same. There should definitely be a discussion group for this.
RE: Bon Iver – didn’t know he had a new album out until I saw your snap (or was it instastory?). Anyway, when I heard the first one, I thought, “wait…I think I clicked on the wrong album!” But, lo and behold I didn’t. I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I am going to continue to listen to it over this week to get a better understanding of my real thoughts. I have a tough time time with the electronic stuff though – not usually my cup of tea.

I reluctantly started watching Breaking Bad because my husband liked it. Then all of a sudden I was into it too. Mike is my favorite character. He’s such a bad ass. I live in the city where it is filmed too so it’s kind of fun to see ABQ become a supporting character of sorts.
I’ll have to check out the broccoli soup. Fall makes me want all things soup.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to the new Bon Iver but I am excited for it. You should listen to the band Bootstraps! They are my favorite and so, SO good. They have two albums – their first, which is just called Bootstraps and every song is amazing-ness (Fortyfive and Guiltfree are my favorites), and Homage, which was just released earlier this year and is all covers of songs but also equally wonderful. Also, “Don’t You Cry For Me” by Cobi and “All We Ever Knew” by Head and the Heart. Listen to them. Oh, and the band Kaleo! “All The Pretty Girls” “Automobile” “Way Down We Go” and “Save Yourself” are my favorites by them. Some seriously good music for your fall.
