this and that.

We were at a summertime festival recently and the line to get your face painted was ungodly long. Parker saw the kids running around with their faces painted, those patient, lucky ones, and I could see the awe in his face. He was able to be talked out of it, reluctantly, but I decided to be the fun Mom and buy face paint. It really is so easy to buy face paint. What are these long lines at festivals for? I now wonder. A few quick Amazon clicks and I have enough face paint to do Spiderman for the next three years. He is delighted. “Wait, really?” He watches my face to see if I’m serious when I suggest such a thing as face painting on a Friday. “Yes, really!” Jumping on a trampoline and this boy’s hair is epic. Best part is, he has no idea. He jumps around, falls down, giggles nonstop. Crazy hair do not care.Fall seems to be elbowing its way to the front of the line with today’s chilly weather. Maybe it’s Hermine’s fault? Either way, I had a sweater on and slippers (these are still the best slippers)! And actually uncovered the Dutch oven from the dusty recesses of our pantry to make a big pot of chili. It takes up permanent residence on one of our four burners from now till early April. And to top all of this off, I am sneezing. Like what is this, a cold? We’re not through yet, summer. Stop trying to make a quiet exit. It’s still your turn.That chili I spoke of. This was quite good. And perhaps my favorite part of the whole thing was the discovery that Anders loves chili. He sat and spooned mouthful after mouthful quietly for a good 15 minutes. He doesn’t do anything quietly or for 15 minutes ever. Since this is a typical repeat-once-a-week meal through a Hunt fall/winter, I am a delighted mother. He might’ve starved otherwise, because the Hunts don’t go without their chili. Parker sat at the table drawing the other day and said, “Will you draw a perfect heart next to me and Anders?” YES I WILL BUDDY.
