I’m waiting for fingerling potatoes to boil for dinner tonight. After that, I’ll get started on sautéing asparagus, summer squash, and then grilling (only if Steve’s home in time; otherwise, I’ll cook it indoors. I’ve just never really learned the ropes of grilling. We’ll work on that in 2017.) marinated chicken and steak tips for dinner tonight. Put it all over salad with peppers, cucumbers, and some shaved parmesan and dinner is served.

I’m also drinking my favorite red wine and listening to Spanish Guitar. It’s all very sophisticated up in here. (Gets especially sophisticated when the clock strikes 8 PM and Bachelor in Paradise is on.)

The kids are watching Winnie the Pooh. The 1977 version that Netflix has. It’s the greatest and I hope that your kids are watching it too. The music (I am stout, round, and I have found, speaking poundage-wise, I improve my appetite when I exercise.), the dialogue, it’s all just so sweet. We had a day at the pool, and Winnie the Pooh is the perfect cap while dinner is cooked. Anders occasionally comes in and squawks at the pantry door (he knows that’s where the chocolate almonds and Pirate’s Booty reside).

I feel the summer days slipping away like water in my hands. Making the most of it, we’re going to the beach tomorrow, and again this weekend. It’s a bit frantic, that mad end-of-summer rush to do all the things that you, in June, knew you’d have time to do later on. (That time is now!) The boys come home from these days happy to see the four walls of their living room again, having expended every last bit of themselves in the sun. They throw all the cushions off the couch and fold themselves into them on the floor. I watch from my spot at the stove, happy to be home and to start again tomorrow.
