this past saturday, we hopped in the car to go to the city. i feel like i see less of the city in the summertime than i do during fall, winter, or spring. we’re always doing other things during the summer and heading into a city just feels extra hot? more stifling than refreshing? a lesser good option compared to the beaches or lakes that are a short drive from where we live. but, boston actually has some good options for cooling off in the summertime like the frog pond and my always-favorite greenway fountains. plus the public gardens is still in full bloom and it’d be a shame to miss it. since we had to go to warby parker anyway (new glasses for steve!), we decided to park once and do the frog pond instead of the fountains this time. we found a spot in the sun that had shade nearby too, and laid our blanket out. anders fell asleep pretty quickly and parker splashed in the water, filled his hat (something he used to do in the dead of italy’s heat wave last year), and then rode the carousel. every time he went around the carousel back to where i was standing he’d yell, “take a picture!” with a big smile on his face.
then we strolled beacon hill. no matter how many times i do this i’m forever peering in windows, wishing i could take tours of all the homes or, better yet, live in one of them. it is just so ridiculously pretty there. “steve, i could live here.” i always say that and it sounds almost like, “twist my arm!” but really, what i mean is kind people of beacon hill, please could one of you stop being so selfish and give me your home. this is not too much to ask. i’ll happily take the one behind me here. isn’t it so beautiful? i look like i could belong there, don’t i?!?!?
i finally stopped into follain which i’ve been wanting to do for months. since i had kids with me, i barely scratched the surface of that beautiful store, but i did buy a big beautiful amber bottle with a pump to fill with their soap. i picked lavender, and now it’s sitting on my bathroom sink making me happy every time i wash my hands. i am even more set on returning. and replacing some of my not-so-natural makeup with the brands they sell once i run out. next up: j.p. licks! parker got a mint chip cone (no matter how much i suggest a cup to him for the obvious reasons, he always wants a cone. when it fell off the cone and onto the street just after the first lick, he decided a cup was a good idea after all. sometimes kids just need to come to these realizations on their own, right?). anders and steve shared a strawberry milkshake, and i got a popsicle from pressed.
i’m a little concerned bordering on anxious that it’s already almost july. summer has only just begun. july, you’ll get your turn! let june have a chance! i always feel like this when july rolls around and you’re only just taking the beach towels out of their winter hibernation and dusting off your outdoor furniture. i’ll take it as motivation to do all the things! get to the beach, the lakes, the hikes, the ice cream dates, the bike rides, the playgrounds, the splash pads!! we’ve done our share of it already.
outfit details: i’m wearing these high-waisted shorts from j.crew, this ringer tee, these f21 sunglasses, and these shoes from beek (c/o). my bag is an ona. parker’s scooter (remains one of the best kid purchases ever) is a micro (maxi version). he’s logged hundreds of miles on it.

This looks lovely! I often work in Philadelphia and love the old section of town that reminds me of this. Many similarities in these two pretty cities!
I am wondering, however, about your stroller. I have the same stroller with a second seat but I’ve been considering adding the riding board for my 4 year old. Lately she likes to walk but sometimes it’s too far and this might be helpful. Do you really use it? I’d hate to buy it and then have her not want to use it. Thank you!!!

i used to work in philly, and yes! old section is similar!
we use the glider board way more than we even use the second seat. so yes! i’d definitely get it!

Your sandals are beautiful! It looked like such a fun day.
May I ask what size your tee is? I haven’t bought from AA in a long time, but I remember they used to run small. (I would buy a large when I’m usually a M or sometimes even S). Such a great outfit, you look gorge! Thanks!
