spring break is upon us. you going to the beach? the mountains? the islands? we’re… doing a lot of projects in the great and still cold state of massachusetts. on the agenda: switch bedrooms with parker (and eventually anders). steve and i will be taking the smallest room in the house, parker’s current bedroom, and giving him our room, which is bigger, for him and anders to eventually share. my reasoning? adults don’t need a big bedroom! we spend little to no time in it (sleep, and a few other things, hardee har harrrrr). and with a first floor as small as ours, we can give them both a bedroom and a play space in what will become their new room. steve’s not thrilled about the arrangement but i on the other hand have visions of grandeur!! “steve! everything will be different! our lives are about to dramatically improve!!! just wait and see!!!!” he’s doubtful.
also, we’re ripping out this tv console thing that’s built into the house that we sort of hate. we might come to regret this one, but again–visions of grandeur (and pinterest!). the tv will then go on the wall along with pictures (almost two years in and still… no… pictures… on… the… walls) and finally, a new kitchen table and sofa are on the list but… piecemeal. money don’t grow on trees and bridget needs to keep spending it on new makeup instead.
so, that’s that. just wanted to keep you all abreast of the hunt happenings as i know you’re all sitting at home tapping your fingers on the refresh-refresh-refresh button waiting for a new post on ye old blog. if you want to see more, or perhaps even witness a heated moment between steve and i as these projects get underway, be sure to follow along on snapchat (itsahuntlife)!!

My refresh button says thank you for the break for today 😉
Sounds like a lot. Best of luck for working along as smooth as possible. We live in a cupboard for about a year now – as my husband phrased it – (not under the stairs though, so less magical) and the kids are pleased and as that means a lot less fighting and tension, we are too, sort of. It's not anything near grandeur, but I didn't use pinterest to plan – my bad.

You've been in this house for almost 2 year?!?!?! WHAT? That's insane. It seems like you just moved! If it makes you feel any better we've been in our house almost 5 years and over half the house still has bare walls… whoops. Good for you guys taking the plunge!

Wow how kind of you to give them your larger room…does that mean you will have no master bath as well or will you use the one in your old room? I love that bunk bed idea!

Love this post; I'm also in the visions of grandeur / everything is going to be amazing once we just sort out that [insert simple looking but actually tricky DIY project here]! I have many Pinterest / magazine ideas that my kind husband gets dragged into, yet here I am in nap time reading a blog and eating salted caramel short bread instead to doing any of them, but that's what a morning with a one year old in a muddy park results in!

You are right and Steve is wrong. I've always despised the term "master bedroom". I think it is a mid-century moniker. I live in a hundred year old house with four bedrooms, each with a walk-in closet. We have always been in the smallest bedroom. It fits our Q size bed and one table beside it. The effect is simple, clean, sleep-inducing. (I do have a wall-sized abstract art on one wall that is glorious to look at upon awakening.) When our boys were young, they shared the biggest bedroom. Now it is an upstairs sitting room with a TV in an armoire b/c I don't like screens to show. The other two bedrooms are guest rooms with their own queens and desks. We could have any bedroom in the house but the smallest suits us perfectly. Have fun getting stuff done!

Oh my gosh, your buying-more-makeup comment made me laugh out loud. Well done, Bridget!
Yes, I totally agree this is a fantastic idea — children USE that space and need it for play and living; you guys simply don't. You do most of your living elsewhere in the house. We're in our master bedroom not because it's the master, but because it's smaller than the other bedroom where our son is (and whenever the baby comes via adoption, they'll eventually be in there too).
Good use of space in a small place on your part, I think!

so question, i think you said in a snap that you ended up going with the bunk bed from ikea. was it this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80253814/? if so, do you know if a single mattress would fit in the bottom framed area. i know they say it's reversible, but i've only seen pictures of a mattress in the boxed in area. i would like to get it as long as i could put two mattresses, one on top and bottom. does that make sense?
