I can see baby Parker in his face here and that makes me happy.
I haven’t spent any real time in Boston since before leaving for our big trip. I love that place and I’ve missed it! Plus, Parker’s a little older now. He shows real interest in things, flips through books, asks detailed questions: what is the biggest whale? (Blue whale.) What’s this thing with whiskers? (Sea Lion.) It’s always been fun to go on excursions with kids, but it’s even more satisfying when they really pick details up, mull it over in their heads, talk about it later. So, where better than a trip to the Aquarium? The downside of everything I just mentioned is that they also know what they want to see. They’re not going into a trip to the aquarium totally blindly–no, he’s seen the books! He’s familiar with Finding Nemo (when we saw a fish like Dory and a sea anemone he pointed both out, look! From Nemo!) He knows that Great Whites exist so why isn’t their one at the aquarium?! Why? He was hyper focused on seeing a shark from the time I mentioned we were going, and all through the aquarium. When I finally pointed one out, a tiny one in the Hammerhead family, he was like, “Are you kidding me? THIS is the shark I’ve been waiting for?” Once he discovered that there’d be no legit sharks to be discovered, he settled for the jellyfish. And there were plenty of jellyfish, thank God. My favorite part? This fun training session we got to watch with the sea otters. So reminiscent of sweet yellow labradors, those playful sea otters. They were adorable.
After we walked over to Fanueil Hall and had lunch. There were people pouring out of the doors with American flags, citizenship papers, cameras clicking away to document the day. So many stories there, I wondered what some of them were. We strolled through the new Boston Public Market afterwards. It was our first time, and the sort of place that Boston needed. Here, now, there is one. The promise of hot apple cider, and Union Square donuts or dinner supplies when the snow is piling up outside? Perfect. (Next up: an Eataly that I hear is coming to Boston!) Before leaving the city, we stopped too briefly in Beacon Hill while I got to hold a friend’s new baby girl before getting on the road to beat the traffic. Oh, such sweetness. Welcome Alma! The third beautiful girl in a lineup of sweet ones.
A day well spent. I look forward to a few more visits this winter and then! On come the fountains on the Greenway, and the carousel on a hot day followed by some pizza and gelato. It’s too soon to be looking forward to that, but I can’t help it.

Look at you and your flare jeans – so gorgeous! If Parker wants to see sharks, y'all should hit up the Baltimore aquarium some day. They have dolphins too!
bridget says
Ooh. On the list!
Magpie says
Your hair! So pretty and natural, and the flares are perfect. My 4 year old is hoping to see a real Shark too, but I'm waiting til he's a bit older before we go to the Aquarium. It's $$$!
bridget says
Thanks! and yes, so expensive – but we did get passes at our local library that bring the cost way down!
