Antipsychotic drugs for children 2 and under? ON WHAT GROUNDS. WHAT IS HAPPENING.
This dress is awesome.
Parker’s cousins showed him these videos at Thanksgiving. He thinks they’re hilarious.
I got Parker these shoes recently. Best part? He can put them on himself!
Never knew I wanted a coconut layer cake with little trees on top but now I do.
I hope your weekend is cozy like this guy.
The perfect book for the outdoorsman (or woman!) in your life.
A bamboo cottage in Indonesia for $65 a night. Okay! OR this villa in China!
I browsed Heifer’s website the other day with Parker, looking at all the different animals, and discussing what they would be used for, and who they would go to, and he picked a couple flocks of geese. A nice way to get your child into the giving spirit for Christmas (felt a little more tangible than some other options). (What do you do?)
Have a good weekend!

I love Heifer Int'l and it's a nice gift to give to nieces and nephews or others – the card makes a nice stocking stuffer.
My boys are a little older now – 6 and 9 – and they've started getting allowance. They get a little for their wallets, and they have "save" and "give" jars. At the end of the year, they decide where they want the "give" money to go. This year, we chose our local service council (food pantry, bill assistance, etc.). I was able to take the boys, let them tour the facility, hear about what they do, and they got to fill out the donation form and hand over their money themselves. They also got to choose what they wanted the money to be used for – my 6-year-old chose fresh fruits/veggies for the food pantry, and my 9-year-old chose Christmas presents for other kids. Both made me very proud, and I was happy to do something like that – felt much more personal than just writing a check. It does make a difference to involve the kids in giving in some way, especially this time of year.

Mary, I love that idea so much. So hands-on, and well-executed. Thank you for sharing!

Coconut layer cake! My great aunt always made one for holidays when I was a kid. Only without trees.

re: psychotic drugs – don't take it at face value. one of my dearest friends has a son who has been battling unknown illnesses for the better part of the last 2 years. one issue he has is that his immune system isn't functioning properly. he keeps getting MRSA and it goes away so long as he remains on antibiotics (otherwise his skin is itchy so he scratches and it comes back), but i probably don't have to tell you how dangerous that is (i.e. drug-resistant MRSA). his dermatologist recommended a very small dose of daily anti-psychotics because they can make his skin less itchy. without this he could die. my friend knows that these drugs could have adverse effects since they haven't been studied, but since her son's life was on the line she made the same decision i would have.
disclaimer: this is so not meant to be condescending. i am a biomedical engineer who works in research and a lot of times articles like that one just incite panic and serve as clickbait, but they are most often misleading. 🙂

Agreed (I am apediatric resident in training :)). It's alarming that children under 2 are being prescribed these medicines, but they also save life and improve quality of life for many, many people. I do, however, wish that behavioral interventions were a more prevalent part of the conversation, especially in such young kiddos… Respectfully, Georgia 🙂

danielle, no condescension whatsoever! i am glad to hear that there's another side to the story (though–i suspect situations like the one you describe are the exception, not the norm??? perhaps not? i don't know!). that story sounds so awful and desperate and i'm sure your friend made the best possible choice she could have! thanks for your comment 🙂

That article on psychotic drugs is frightening, and I really hope there's more to it than that. My husband works in the pharmaceutical industry and tells me so many horror stories about young kids on drugs they don't need. It's scary!
