A new series, ok? We all love a series (or hate a series; it really goes both ways equally.) Italy in ten iPhone pictures and in ten facts.
1. Seeing a lot of these in Italy and thus declaring, we’re not so different in fashion after all.
2. Get the milk or yogurt that says Intero on it. Whole!
3. Italians love babies. What is that? It’s a primarily Catholic country so surely there is not a shortage of babies. Is it the blonde hair on Anders?
4. In Orvieto, almost every day there is something to bring out to the road for trash: glass is one day, plastic another, compost another, normal trash another, so on and so forth. Every day is trash day!
5. Wine, cheap! 1/4 litro for 3 euros at almost all restaurants. It’s enough for a glass for both Steve and I and a little more (for me). You’d be silly not to order it and drink liberally.
6. There’s nothing like lunch meat here. Salami, prosciutto, yes. Normal American lunch meat, no. Steve ordered 5 euros worth of salami the other day and we ate slices as we walked down the street.
7. You know how there’s literally no savings benefit when you go to an American farmer’s market–but you will actually spend top dollar there? The farmer’s markets here are actually cheaper!
8. Croissants for breakfast–plain, or with cream, with jelly, with chocolate in the middle. A croissant for everyone!
9. I found bacon at a grocery store. I bought it. (ETA: I cooked it and it was more pancetta like and not crispy bacon after all. We ate it anyway!)
10. When people come up to see Anders, they wave backwards. The way in the U.S. we wave with our palms facing out, they wave at him with their palms facing in and their fingers bending towards their wrist.

Can I ask, did you both want to do the trip or did it take one of you some convincing? I'd love to go back to Europe with my hubby and from time to time we throw the idea around and then drop it. When did you decide to do it and how did you make it happen?? And how do you stay so slim and gorgeous?? And finally… You're hair looks so amazing in all the pics. Tips!? Ps you can answer later by the way…. Enjoy your holiday 🙂 🙂

I could totally go for a croissant every morning! I love Italy and you are making me want to pick up and go for a few months! Too bad my husband can barely take a week off from work without being swamped when he gets back!

Yay to all of this! Love you. Keep posting everything. 🙂

I love reading your posts these days. It's like a mini- vacation to Italy every morning. When people "wave" to Anders, are you sure they aren't beckoning to him like, "Come here, kiddo." ?? From the way you are describing the motion, that's what it sounds like to me.

LOVED reading this, Bridget! Makes me want to nail down that Italy trip even more (I've been twice, but not yet with my husband and son, and I want us all to go). The last one, with how the Italians wave at Anders, is utterly charming — and perfectly encapsulates why I love traveling.
And YAY for cheap wine and farmers' markets! I remember liking every single bottle of red wine I had there — it was all so good.
Enjoy!

Love this post, too! And my grandma waved the same way, I've never noticed the difference though.

Ah, I'm reliving Italy vicariously through these pics and reflections, thank you!
(and crazily enough, Italy actually has the lowest birthrate in all of Western Europe. So sad. They adored our blonde boys too, but they're not having enough of their own these days.)

We just returned from 4 glorious weeks in Sicily. We only had 2 children, but let me know if you are going down there and would like recommendations. In my opinion, Sicily is ottimo!! Italy actually has a very low birth rate, hence the baby mugging. :o) Also, as you have noticed, it's just a very family-focused culture, which is nice. Enjoy!

I am loving your adventure! This ten post is a great format. And, seeing as how I love Birk's, I actually ordered the Yara's from Amazon. Hope that's not creepy. Never could decide if the ankle strap would bug me before. It doesn't! Enjoy your extended stay in Italy!

On point 3, while Italy is a primarily Catholic country, it has one of the lowest birth rates in the world (just second behind Spain). It used to be a country full of large families… now with their economy as it is, it's more typical to see one child (or none at all) per family. Sad!

On the whole waving backwards thing: Both my family and my husband's are from Italy and we taught my 9-month old to wave backwards too — I think at first I assumed all babies learned that way? But now I realize it may just be an Italian thing! Anyway, I grew up going to southern Italy every summer so if you need any advice if you're headed that way – let me know!
