here’s the thing: on the websites boyfriend jeans look awesome. they look all i’m casual but put together but i really didn’t try and oh these old things? just threw them on as i ran out the door why do you ask. you follow? it seems they must be rolled up, look really awesome with a heel (i basically never wear heels unless i’m my other identity and she rarely comes out to play but is much more fun than me), and also look very comfortable. i’m pretty devoted to the skinny jean (these being my favorite ever which i wear no less than twice or seven times a week, cat’s out of the bag) but there’s something to be said for trying something new! ooh, so daring! my biggest gripe about boyfriend jeans is that they do nothing for the behind (beeee-hind. emphasis on the first syllable.).
i just ordered these last week and moved every which way in the mirror but couldn’t really embrace them. and now these and these (of course, both shown with heels, the natural choice for a stay at home mom) look really great but now the wind’s all sucked out of my sails with my returned purchase. are boyfriend jeans just not for me? someone, tell me quick.

If you have a small bum I think boyfriend jeans are a no no!
bridget says
is that it?! i think you're right.
Lauren says
I think that's it! I have the same issue!
Lindsay @ Trial By Sapphire says
You definitely have the height! (I would never dare slip a leg into boyfriend jeans, because I'd look more like Boo from Monsters, Inc. than a mom.)
Stephanie says
I have tried many different styles of boyfriend jeans and if I were going for comfort only, I could wear them. They are super comfortable! But alas they do nothing for my look whatsoever. I don't understand how the models look so cute. Oh well. I love my Madewell skinny skinny jeans and the alley straight. Their jeans are legit!!
Sarah Beth says
I've heard that Old Navy now makes a Skinny Boyfriend Jean. I'm not sure if they are awesome or not, but might be a happy medium for you.
Kodi Jensen says
I love mine! So comfy and fun to dress up or down, though I do love something more structured/fitted on top. And I have a booty, so I can't comment on whether that first comment is always right. I am short though, so they'd work even better with your gorgeous long legs!

When it comes to boyfriend jeans, I love this idea from Caroline from Unfancy: http://www.un-fancy.com/spring-outfits/boyfriend-jeans-open-knit-sweater/
bridget says
genius!

I struggle with them too, I really want a pair but the crotch area always feels too low or the smallest pair they have always look huge on me:( I tried Sport fit jeans which are sort of like a skinny meets boyfriend and they had an elastic waist which I was stoked about as 7+ months pregnant the elastic band holding up my jeans thing is getting old- anyway they don't even make sporty jeans in my size, HUH supposedly they are meant to look big- I mean there is big and then there is falling OFF.. So yea I share your frustration!!
Alissa says
I tried on boyfriend jeans at Old Navy a couple weeks ago and *almost* bought them, but opted for a pair of black skinny jeans because old habits die hard.
Does anyone actually buy them and successfully wear them? I think they are a trap!
bridget says
I think you're right!
Kathleen Forbes says
I think you could pull them off. I always feel so frumpy wearing them though!
Catherine Short says
I have one pair from Gap that I purchased on a whim almost two years ago that I love. I've never been able to find another pair so hopefully these last me a long time.
Jen says
Gap sexy boyfriend jeans are less "dumpy" looking, but you need to size down….also the new skinny BF jeans at Old Navy ARE good… also size down. They will stretch.
Hope that helps. I'm pretty impressed with the new Old Navy ones…^…they really are cute. (mine are size 0, FWIW, but I do have a bit of a butt)
Emily says
Yes to the skinny BF jeans from Old Navy. I am a big fan after also unsuccessfully trying BF jeans for years (and yes to sizing down, too).
Rosie Shoemaker says
personally, I think the less defined booty is part of the appeal and look. if you're wearing something structured/tighter on top then a loose fitting pant has an air of sexiness to me – part of that whole less is more philosophy. I have a pair from Gap (also the sexy boyfriend jeans like another commenter mentioned) and I wear them all.the.time in summer – over my bathing suit, running out the door to run an errand, the works. I have a similar body type to you, although not as thin, and I think downplaying curves can be a cool look. But to each their own of course!

I think boyfriend jeans would look great on you with a pair of KEDS and a tee, hat and military vest (am I paining a picture here?) I have been doubtful of getting them myself because I do have beeehind and they just seem to make it bigger. I don't know who they were made for. Skinny, tall stay at home moms who do wear heels? lol
Happy Medley Blog
bridget says
yes, i think they were made for those people. do you know any sahm's who do wear heels? i'm coming up short!
(i like the picture you're painting!)
Janssen says
TOTALLY!

I have the bum and they do not work for me either!. It seriously looks like i put on a pair of Matts jeans. The legs are was to wide for my skinny legs. They look all nice a tapperes in the ads.
Vaida @ Dont Tell Anyone says
hmm.. i LOVE boyfriend jeans. I have three pairs of them, and even though that i always had a huge crush on skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans are more wearable in my world.
i just find them super comfortable, & sometimes not only for a casual look. i paired them with heeled sandals, & it worked!
my favourites are from zara. i've posted about them sometime ago: http://donttellanyone.net/blog/watermelon-mood/ ! :}
Kiersten Wilbur says
I can't do boyfriend jeans either. Try straight leg–a little more fitted at the waist, but with the looser leg (Gap fit me well)
Claire {Beaktweets} says
oh, i LOVE LOVE LOVE the boyfriend jeans. I have a few pair and I find them so much more wearable than skinny jeans. I love them with a slouchy tee and converse sneakers which is pretty much all I wear ever these days 😉 I bet they look so cute on you! But they really are different than skinny jeans.
Kate says
I agree with you completely. The idea of a boyfriend jean is great and even in the beginning a good pair can be, but in the end I always find the waist falling down, the bum getting saggy, and me feeling like I look 10 lbs heavier. Boo! The pair I really like that look like boyfriend jeans are by Levi…called Mid Rise Skinny. Lots cheaper than what you were listing too. 😉
Kate says
p.s. found my Levis Mid Rise Skinny from Zappos (love their free shipping and returns!). If you're looking for the rolled up look, you can get them in Crop. They're fantastic and so well priced!
Kristen says
I could have written this post! I try on boyfriend jeans everytime I see them, thinking "these will be the ones", but alas the cute boyfriend jean (for me) has yet to be found. I feel frumpy and have a "mom jean butt", I am a mom and all, but no thanks!
Rebeka says
I usually just go up a size ish in some straight leg jeans (destroyed is best), cuff, and call them boyfriend. That way at least they kinda fit in the butt. But, I think it's important to remember that if you're not used to the way baggier jeans look on you, you might think they look bad/not right/whatever. It's kind of like wearing a bright lipstick for the first time, you've gotta get use to the jeans.
Jess Daniels says
I love boyfriend jeans ! Especially budget friendly multiple options that create more fabulous fashion moments!
