It turns out no matter how many times you listen to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” it won’t necessarily make you happy.
You didn’t know?
Nevertheless, we listen to that song every single morning, at least five times, along with a healthy dose of the Cars soundtrack (the McQueen and Sally song is really quite wonderful and no matter how many times I listen to it, I will always say to Lindsey, “I really want to go live in Radiator Springs” to which she heartily agrees) with a dash of Wall-E and Finding Nemo. They’re all just really good soundtracks whether or not you know the movie. That Thomas Newman really knows what he’s doing. And while on the subject, so does Randy Newman and did you know they’re cousins? What a musical family that one is (and they’re not the only two).
So anyway, this whole Bridget’s-such-a-bummer thing is becoming a bit of a trend here and I think I have to break it here and now. I’m still hanging on, albeit by my fingertips, but I promise the kids are clean and fed and I take my Old Navy sweatpants off every fourth day. But since they’re skinny, they kind of give the allusion of a non-sweatpant so I figure I can get away with that and maybe I’ll even stretch it to every fifth or sixth if Steve’s so lucky.
I had what I told Steve was a “mental health day” last Sunday. That included, wait for it, buying lipstick and a new bra. I should’ve gone to the movies. Or gotten a pedicure. Why didn’t I get a pedicure?! Though, honestly, a pedicure just feels terribly indulgent when my feet will be shoved back into their Wigwams for the next two months. Each freshly painted toenail would probably have the imprint of the sock before I even left the parking lot. A waste of money is what that is!
Nevertheless, we keep on keeping on. The promise of spring around the corner. How’s the saying go? In like a lion, out like a lamb? Let it be so. And there’s still good things. Like Steve and I watching House of Cards at night in bed together and being ever impressed and appalled at the ease of which Francis and Claire go in and out of various liaisons with people other than each other (we’re only a few episodes in). And the music class that Parker and I go to on Fridays. It’s really fun and he stays on my lap nearly the whole time, a mama’s boy that one is. I watch his face light up with recognition of the songs we’ve been singing week after week and I just want to cover it with kisses. How about the frequency at which the Hunts have been consuming quesadillas lately? That can only be good. We make them with any combination of things because, did you know, when anything has melted cheese added to it, it will be good? Scientific. Beans, veggies, meat, sweet potato. I even attempted to give a little life to my breakfast by doing my eggs and sprinkling of cheddar in a quesadilla the other day. We’ve living large here, people! Oh and a new chapstick!
The last one was a joke. End it if I ever really celebrate such mediocrity. Please.

I have been feeling like I need a lot of "mental health days" lately. Texas keeps us on our toes and it isn't much fun. Last Saturday it was a beautiful 80 degrees and the next day below 40 and sleeting. Seriously, just pick a season, Texas!
Here is to spring coming sooner! Cheers.

I'm not above celebrating a new chapstick. I LOVE chapstick.
House of Cards. So good and so shocking, right? We're on Season 2 and I like it but it kinda scares me….

A new bra AND new lipstick?!? Sounds like a perfect mental health boost. I, for one, would benefit from such a day. Hang in there lady, funky moods pass. Sometimes much too slowly. And it seems you still have your sense of humor.
Rebeka says
Aren't new bras such a treat? And lipstick too!
It has been a really long winter. Hooray for daylight savings time on Sunday. I am really looking forward to the extra hour of daylight. And to the day when I can finally justify a pedicure.
Rebeka says
*justify because it's warm and my toes won't be covered all day every day!

I never comment on blogs; I am a legit serial lurker. But I have to say that I love your blog and the way you write. You have such a wit and charm about you, that as a stay at home mom to two boys, always has me nodding along to your posts. Chin up, because a new, better season is coming with, hopefully, a new, better head space for us all. All the best! Katie
bridget says
thanks so much katie. you're right. come at me spring!

This what our lives have become as we wait for the cold weather vail to be lifted!! I got excited over buying a hanging fruit basket this week. Sad part is I didn't even leave the house, but when it arrived and I walked 4 steps out the front door to get it, I was genuinely excited. UGH! Spring where are you!!
bridget says
love this. sounds like something i'd celebrate too. "ooh! a box of diapers came! let's open it together, parker!"
sad. so sad.

If you saw 20/20 last night, you'd be very glad to stay out of nail salons altogether!!
{annie_loo} @ The Farrar Four says
I was just about to say…skip the pedi! I saw 20/20 too! GROSS! Springs around the corner sister. Go buy you some happy flowers to keep on the window sill. If I lived close by I'd bring you a mason jar full. And some chocolate chip cookies. Because after the afternoon that we had, I had to make some slice and bakes. DELISH I TELL YOU. DELISH. And tomorrows Monday! THREE CHEERS FOR MONDAY! WHAT?!?!? HA! JOKE! Monday. Blah. BUT! The sun WILL shine and it's above freezing! So, there's that! Love you Bridge!
