yesterday was a doozy of a day. gray and rainy and damp and, for the first time this winter, i was just over it. and the day before i was google-flighting a ticket to anywhere but here. give me warmth, give me sunshine. just for a little bit, please? i even painted my nails this color just to evoke a feeling of summer and next, i’m whipping up a batch of pina coladas! where was i (oh yes! let’s get back there quick! it was such a fun place!)… parker was in a mood, and i was in a mood, and his mood was made moodier by my mood and my mood was made moodier by his and you get the picture. also, i’m pretty sure yesterday was longer than other days. it had to be. i took a bath during his nap to try to capture some zen but by minute four my bath was not nearly warm enough to sit and get toasty (baths are overrated, there i said it. unless you have one of these…). it was one of those days where i’m watching the clock till it’s bedtime and i’m off the clock. you know? of course you know. (and unrelated but sort of related–when those days strike, whip out some dried rice/dried beans. this picture’s from a few days ago when parker went to town on the train table for, all told, probably two hours or so, maybe more. filling his dump trucks, dumping, pushing it all with the bulldozer. i added a bob’s red mill 13-bean bag to it too and that’s when things got really crazy. just keep the vacuum nearby!)
anyhow, with each shitty day comes a new one and a fresh start and that’s really a good thing. slate wiped clean, coffee poured, come at me new day! especially when that day is a friday. only good things can come now, right? it’s the freakin’ weekend baby i’m about to have me some fun (you guys remember that song?). do you have any fun weekend plans? anyone seen any good movies lately? i want to see american hustle and the wall street one…
for your weekend reading, here are some good things milling about the internet lately. i’ve already shared some of them on twitter but they’re worth sharing here if you’re not over there too!
// this post on homosexuality. short, to the point, and so good. i wish i’d written it myself.
// this post about letting go of your first baby will surely speak to some of you mamas, particularly the emotional ones (no shame! i’m one of ’em!). it’s really beautiful and really heartwrenching.
// i did an interview for the girls at navy darling and i really enjoyed it. also, those girls are so nice.
that’s all she wrote.
(and p.s. that sweatpants post + the comments here + on IG was a hoot. it is clear that we ladies love us some sweatpants.) have a great weekend friends!

I felt exactly as you did re: yesterdays dreary weather. meh. the sun is supposed to shine today, yay for that!
and re: wolf of wall street…if you're looking for opinions – i went. i saw. i disliked the majority of it. i mean, i'm all for expanding my movie horizons and seeing different flicks (this was the bf's pick); Leo had a great performance (per usual) as well as Jonah Hill and McConaughey had a brief, stellar appearance. but honestly? i'm no prude, and i left feeling slightly polluted. the funny plots and story line (for me) got lost in all the nudity and drugs and greed and excess. i left there feeling sad about life, and sad for the real person this happened to. and not that every movie needs to be a pick-me-up, but… i just wasn't a fan. i like most of Scorsese's films, but for me, this will not be a movie i recommend, or see again. probably ever.
too harsh? perhaps. maybe i just wasn't in the right mood to see the film… but there are my two cents for what they're worth! and if you are looking for a feel-good movie, i would heartily recommend seeing Frozen, if you haven't already. such a sweet movie! and will maybe make you feel a bit better about winter π
bridget says
i hear you — you don't sound like a prude (we saw frozen and loved it! and have been listening to the soundtrack the past few days!). i don't like movies that leave me feeling blehhhhh even when the acting's stellar. noted! thank you π
Beth Ann says
Totally agree with Becky about Wolf of Wall Street. :-/

We also saw American Hustle. It is pretty good, worth seeing I think, but kind of hard to keep up with at times. Well, at least it was for me. π

It must have been in the air yesterday because we had the same kind of day here. Today is looking better already! And great idea with the rice and beans. I'm totally doing that today. Loved your interview on Navy Darling! I have read your blog for a while now. I found it on Oh dear drea when she had posts about how you found your love, or something like that. I read your post and have been hooked ever since! Anyhoo- hope you and Parker have the BEST Friday! Cheers to it being the weekend!
Marjorie says
Loved your interview! I've been following you since before Parker was born π What keeps me coming back is your honesty and that you write on a wide range of topics.
Liz/happymommy says
Loved your interview over at navy darling…fun to read a little bit more about you and your thoughts!! Just love your blog (as I know I have said before) and yes, to me you are a big blogger with a big heart who is honest and open and that to me makes you one of the best!!!
Oh yeah and have so been there done that, staring at the clock waiting to punch out when the kids go to bed….sometimes more often than I would like to admit!
Happy Friday!!!
bridget says
thank you liz!

Ditto to this.

i feel ya, yet i don't have a 2 year old. i'm not sure if i have an excuse for days like these…
Emily Baker says
also, that IS a great article. you and i are clearly on the same page.
bridget says
i'd fist bump you if i could.

The dried rice and beans are a great idea. We saw "Her" and "American Hustle" this week and enjoyed both for different reasons. Very entertaining. I wasn't thinking about anything else while watching (which is rare).
paige.eleanor says
I'm totally going to Old Navy tonight and scoring some of those sweats. I could not be more excited. You're an inspiration, in more ways than one;)
bridget says
well thank you paige. at the very least, i'm glad women everywhere have more comfortable pants thanks to me (or thanks to old navy, really).
paige.eleanor says
Dude the Old Navy by me didn't have my size. Now I'm just sitting here in plain old leggings drowning my sorrows in a glass of wine. What a tragic Friday night!!
Cheryl says
Love that article.
Fit With Flash says
1) I love that article on homosexuality. Same-sex marriage rights are ones that I've always stood behind and I LOVE when the believers are on the same side. : )
2) American Hustle – I was really looking forward to this one. We saw it opening night. It'll do for some entertainment for sure, but it's good movie, not a GREAT movie. It's funny, at times, but overall kind of slow and anti-climacticβ¦ and it's unnecessarily 2.5 hours long.
The director did a kickass job of making it happen, the characters are really great, the actors were phenomenal (espesh Amy Adams!), and you will want to own every single outfit Amy Adams dons, but you could totally wait 'til it's out on video (in my opinion).
3) Sorry for the longest comment ever. Have a good weekend!

I can so relate to those days. We've had a long, dark winter here in Milwaukee and it's not near being over. I love winter, I really do. But, I like the sun some days too. Beans & rice are genius ideas for the kids. At 5 Cohen still loves to play, and easy to vacuum up quickly. Happy weekend.

Found your instagram/blog last fall (through your guest post on Annapolis and co.) and have been loving it! I especially enjoyed reading your love story. It kept reminding me of the Sound of Music. π
So glad you and Parker made it through the day. Hurray for the weekend!
P.S. Beware of the Wolf on Wallstreet, it's basically porn.
bron @ baby space says
american hustle is fun, the mr and I both enjoyed it and we have really different taste so I can recommend.
and adorable interview at navy darling! x
Alice says
American Hustle was excellent! JLaw is the BEST!
I also liked Lone Survivor, reminds you to be thankful for our military no matter what your political stance is. So many young men and women give their lives for our freedom. Very deep, but a good reminder.
Wolf of Wall Street was like a mini-porn with more F-bombs than I can drop in a month, but it has Leo in it so that's a plus.

thank you for sharing those links. powerful, beyond measure.
