…and they’re gauchos. so what a sad death that’d be. death by gaucho.
true story: i was running on campus once (not actually exercising… just getting from point a to point b in a jiffy. not sure why i did this but apparently i did it often because at one point this upperclass kid did say to me, “hey, aren’t you the girl that runs a lot?” and he didn’t mean for sport either. but like, with books, backpack… running to class… so… i guess i was that girl. and as i write this i can’t help but wonder if there are any old classmates reading this who’ve never been able to put a finger on exactly where they’ve seen me but are now having an a-ha moment, “nowwww i remember her! the girl who ran everywhere!” though, in my defense i will say this: i mostly ran to 8 am classes because i am notoriously late, or was then anyway.). now that i got that out of the way… i was running, and running downhill. my one foot hooked the pant leg of the other foot – of course! – and i legit went airborne-superman-style. between the downhill, and the running, i flew in the air a good few feet, landed, and skidded. concrete. i have the most scarred knees ever and it was in large part thanks to this. my one knee did not fare well. swollen and bloody and disgusting. also, my elbows and the palms of both hands. and i remember a kid driving by as the skidding was taking place (what a sight!) and me getting up like all was cool. all was not cool, all was not cool.
i put the gauchos away for a long time, but got them out last year. give ’em a second go round. i’m more careful this time.

Cute outfit and I LOVE your necklace…where is it from? (p.s. glad you did not die by death of gaucho's, haha!!)
bridget says
thanks liz! it's from a little store in fort myers florida actually! boo.
Pink Pamalamma says
OMG I'm in Fort Myers! Crazy!
Shayna Carter says
aw, that is hilarious!!! i love a good falling story! (what?)
glad the pants fared the fall! mine would have ripped up to the crotch leaving me not only hurting and mortified, but nakey to boot.
bridget says
yeah, have no idea how the knees of the pants fared so well when my own knees were goners.

awe. it's still a cute outfit dear!

Oh my gosh, falling while running is the absolute worst. Also, not a lot of people can pull of the gouchos but you're rocking them. So mad props to you for that! Oh and happy Monday, too.
bridget says
happy monday to you too!
Megan says
this might be one of my favorite stories of yours. ever. and I am in love with that last photo of you.
bridget says
oh good good, glad to be of entertainment 🙂

This was too funny…maybe not at the time for you, but you have to be able to laugh now right? Maybe? If not then I just look mean for laughing. haha! But I love your hat in any event 🙂
bridget says
yes. it is totally hilarious as i look back. wish i could have watched it happen.
ilene @ muchloveilly says
oh, girl! that is honestly hilarious but so sorry you ended up with a scarred up knee. you looked cute though. 😉
Alex says
As long as you're just standing around lookin' like a hottie in them and not running you should be cool.

This is so funny! Today I went into my closet and rummaged through the pile of old stuff I keep in a corner. I came out with a pair of long black gaucho pants (that needed sufficient ironing) and decided I was bringing them back! Looks like I wasn't the only one with this thought 😉 Thanks for the post!

bridget says
yes! they're like public-suitable pajama pants! or at least i think so.
Rachael says
Are you adding gauchos to a fashion post to suggest we should all embrace them again? To bring them back? Or to flaunt that you wisely saved them all this time? All of the above!
…I got rid of my college edition (huge mistake) but they were urban outfitters and I never had the to-the-floor version. I wonder if they were even offered in the midwest? Very interesting.
…I now have a recent target version and they are just not as cute as the early 00 version Alas.
bridget says
yes. if they come back in a big way i am solely responsible.
(i had several pairs of the cropped version. just not as cool as the east coast floor version–i'm calling them the east coast version because apparently it is so.)

I can relate… I was at an outdoor crafts show, wearing very wide leg linen pants: a bee flew up my leg, stung me- I shrieked and started running, trying to get it to exit my pant leg and… you guessed it; I tripped and fell flat on my face- in the mud. Not a good moment. 🙁
bridget says
that sounds AWFUL.
Claire {Beaktweets} says
You know I love gauchos. I've been rocking mine a ton lately. Perfect for cool summer nights! My new ones are super long so I need to be careful about not running down any hills 🙂 And I have that same gray t-shirt and wear it nearly everyday. So comfy. Goes with anything. Though maybe I shouldn't wear it quite as much as I do…
bridget says
make no apologies for grey tees every dang day.
and yes, do not run. you will inevitably hook the opposite pant leg and it will end up badly.
Pink Pamalamma says
Oh no, that's awful!! 🙁
Hey are these the gouchos from the bike ride when Steve first touched your leg? 😉
bridget says
GOOD MEMORY. but no, those were the cropped ones.
Stefanie says
I just laughed out loud for a few minutes.
Alexa says
OMG. Totally LOLed and I needed that. So thank you. 😉 Sweet blog you have!
claire - this little house says
so beautiful!!! your figure is to die for!
i had a similar incident but mine involved wearing high heels and the stiletto going through the other leg completely ripping it and leaving me floored 🙁
ah what us ladies will do for fashion ha ha!
Kimberly says
They look great on you! But the tripping story, I can totally relate. On multiple occasions. I once tripped 9 months pregnant and my knees took the worst of it to protect my belly. I didn't have time to go home and I had to go to my ob appointment with blood running down my leg.
v.jack says
I laughed out loud…I'm sorry! Take it as a compliment of your story telling though! 🙂
Amy @ Five Kinds of Happy says
You always look so chic! I'm a secret reader of your blog for aggges but don't think I've commented before. I'm in awe that you can pull off gaucho pants. Also, the "dinner AGAIN?!" thing from today's post… yes.
bridget says
thanks for coming out of hiding amy 🙂
and give gauchos a try! they might surprise you!!
