steve and i made a long-awaited purchase of a washer and dryer last week. the one i’d been using was doing its job… buuuut not. it was from ’98 so it had run its faithful course. there are certain times when i feel, ever so keenly, “i have arrived!” as a house-mouse and the anticipation of the delivery of our new washer and dryer was one of those times (coming in at a close second to my excitement over a new barefoot contessa cookbook).
i learned more than i thought i ever needed to know about them but the big kicker–size difference! guys. guyssssss. i can do in one load what i used to do in three. the old one? like ten towels? this one… 67! i exaggerate, but, you get the drift. steve asked me how i like using it and i said, “it is an event.” it’s true. the thing practically talks to me. i think i could train it to call me by name. siri has some definite competition now.
anyway, when they came to deliver it, steve asked the delivery men if we could keep the boxes after they installed it. they kindly obliged and a box fort was born. steve, william, and lindsey put it together and called parker over to check it out. it’s always fun, a fort of any kind. parker climbed in and began to shriek excitedly.
cheers to box forts, say i.
(this all reminds of of christina katerina + the box. one of my favorite books from way back when. anyone else remember that book??)
Box forts are fun for kids of all ages! I kind of want a kid so that it's ok for me to make forts again…
that's a good a reason as any to have a kid say i.
Oh I remember when we got our new washer and dryer last year….seriously such an exciting day and yes, it is an event….I was never in my life more excited to do laundry (the novelty wears off though, ha)!! Too funny how we get excited about things like that!! 🙂
i'm enjoying the novelty while it lasts!!!
i swear. that child is so cute! hooray for a new washer and dryer! that's always fun! i mean…as far as chores go! box fort on the other hand- heck yeah!
I'm torn between what I find more exciting: a new washer/dryer set OR a box fort.
I guess the wonderful thing is that in this particular case they go hand in hand. Win-win.

sorry kids, washer/dryer is more exciting!!
If I had a dollar for every fort my mister made for his three daughters, I could retire.
So cute….darling photos! Congrats on new W/D!
Cutest little tot in the best box fort ever.
little munchkin
What. A. Blast. My kids would be in heaven.
A little boy and his fort… That's what little boys dreams are made! So adorable!
how fun! oh they'll have 'loads' of fun. lol.
i might need to purchase a new dryer/washer so i can build a fort too. wonder how the hubs will feel about that. haha.
the boxes alone, well worth the hefty price tag!! 🙂
Oohh Parker is so cute in the box fort. And I'm happy for you that you got a new washer. Being able to do a BIG load of laundry is one of the BEST things.
This reminds me of that show "Out of the Box"… when I realized you actually couldn't build an amazing playhouse/kid mansion out of some cardboard boxes… I think I may have actually died a little.
I agree with you on how wonderful a new washer/dryer is! We bought LG front loaders last May and honestly I don't mind doing laundry. They make it so much easier! However once they invent a machine that can fold and put away I will like it a whole lot more!
a folding/putting away machine PLEASE.
My sisters (and cat!) and I played with a refrigerator box for MONTHS when we were little! Love that Parker's got a fort now!
We had to buy a washer and dryer when we moved back last October ("had" in the first world sense, but you know) and I fell in love with the Samsung front loaders. We caught an amazing sale, bought them, and… they play little tunes when done. And when turned on/off. It's kind of fun, kind of annoying. My Japanese rice cooker does as well, which cracks me up!
Also, the size? Holy crap. We had a good-size Bosch washer and dryer in England (could fit one US-king blanket or all of our US king sheets in one load) but this one I think I could stuff every textile we own in and still have space- and it's the smallest size! When Paul's traveling with work (a lot) I run out of clothes long before I have a full load.
We didn't get boxes. I'm a little sad over that.
SERIOUSLY. we went from like 2.6 (is that cubic feet??) to like 4.7 – INSANE difference. i could sleep in my new washer, i'm pretty sure. in fact, i might.
I totally remember Christina Katerina and the Box!
You are wonderful parents. Straight up wonderful.
And Parker's hat?! Stop it right now. Where can I get MYSELF one of those?! Too.Freaking.Cute.
thanks so much kaitlyn, you're the sweetest!! YOU can get YO-self one at h&m (where i got mine!) but his came from gapkids 🙂
I remember getting our new washer too. After husband had been on all the how to fix it sites typing in the symptoms. (because he wasn't going to give up on it yet) The site replied back it's @*$&%#!!! time to buy a new one. Yeah new washer!!!!
YES. forts were (and are) the best.
also, thanks to your wonderful rec, I ordered the cutest crib sheets I've ever seen from Elizabeth! The blue bird deer sheets. My little boy thanks ya!!
Oh, I love the box forts! The best is you can paint awesomeness on it and really make it your own. Good luck getting Parker out of it!
I remember that book! In fact, as soon as I saw the picture, I was reminded of it!
Loooove the fort! The best toys are not toys at all!
so cute!
