he’s showing more interest these days in what is that magic you’re doing up there above the counter top where i can’t see? (oh! real fun stuff, parker! cleaning dishes, cutting onions, and smearing peanut butter across sandwich bread!)
nevertheless, he’ll push those chairs around the kitchen floor – all three of them – until they’re haphazardly up against the sink… and then, he begins to climb them. (side note, are all toddler boys climbers??)
the most recent activity is this one: bowls and spoons and measuring cups and a little trickle of water. he’ll fill, dump, fill again. repeat. times eleventyseven.
Ah this post is so cute! I discovered your blog through Story of My Life yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading your love story. She mentioned it was good! 🙂
He's all "I got this Ma, you can get back to the peanut butter on bread thing"
Sooo stinking cute, in theses Pictures he looks so much like your Husband! 🙂
Happy Monday!
xoxo
uggggh he has THE SWEETEST cheekiest little smile that kills me dead. i love him
@natalie j, welcome!! thanks for visiting.
@maggy, totally.
@misshighsocks, they're twins at this point.
@megan, guh, i love his face in that one too.
haha! My (just turned) 2 year old guy does the same thing! We can get him to do/eat anything IF we follow up with a "you can wash your hands and play with the water afterwards!" Currently searching for a fun water table for the summer 🙂
That grin in picture #3. I could just eat him. Easton use to LOVE to do this too! It's so fun for them to help! Now, at school, they have a full working kitchen and he 'cooks' every Wednsday so we're getting back to the 'helping mom in the kitchen' role again. Just recently- blueberry muffins. It really doesn't take much. And yes. All climbers. And jumping. That's the new thing at our house. Jumping OFF the couch. Real fun! 😉
Hahaha omg little kids are so funny with the water…and ANYTHING in repetition that involves filling and dumping…rocks, water, sand, etc…all those expensive toys be damned when it comes to a Dollar Store measuring cup and a sink.
This is so sweet. I love how easily kids are entertained and it's always the simplest things that make them the happiest.
Yes! Most boys are climbers! At least both of mine have been that way!
Anyways, this is one of Colton's most favorite things to do at my grandparents house! And he loves loading the dishwasher and helping with laundry at home. I will keep encouraging it!!!
1- YES all boys are climbers. Well, at least I'm 2 for 2 for climbers.
2- Finn is in this EXACT stage. Nothing keeps him more entertained than dumping and filling in the kitchen sink. It's amazing.
3- I say it all the time, but that boys smile just melts me. He has such a sweet face!
Gah, he is just SO stinkin cute!!! I will have to try this with my little, she would LOVE it!!!
Oh gosh that smile!!! He is so adorable!
My four year old loves to do this.
Those pictures are so cute! That cheeky smile just kills me, you guys made a handsome kid! Also I really like this idea and will be trying it with my son soon.
Oh, and yes. All toddler boys are climbers. At least I'm pretty sure, because mine is a crazy climber that is trying summit something very dangerous everytime I turn around.
@chelsea, two climbers. you, my friend, have a special place in heaven.
@merry2181, seriously. forget the toys, bring out the kitchen gear.
Such a cutie!
I'm another one that found your blog through Jenni yesterday. I read your Love Story and was instantly hooked! New follower through Blogloving 🙂
Liane x
Bridget, stop trying to disguise what this really is: child labor. Shame on you for forcing Parker to wash the dishes at such a young age.
@liane, welcome! thanks for coming!
@jenni, preeeeetty much. everyone's gotta earn their keep!!! (also, you see all the lovely people stopping by because of you??! you're the best)
Why is it that kids are always more entertained by strange things like pots and pans more than actual toys made for children? LOL
Coming over from Jenni's blog (Story of my Life)
She is correct!! You have such a captivating story. Your family is darling.
I'll have to try the Wendy's sandwich.
Your little boy is darling!
I think all toddlers are climbers 🙂 . My daughter does the same thing, the sound of chairs scraping on the wood floors drives me a little mad so she now has a little plastic chair to stand on. Cooking with toddlers is so much fun, and messy….and slow!

my sister and i were fascinated with cleaning dishes when we were little. my mom got such a big kick out of it that she would "let us" wash the dishes at her friends' dinner parties just to show them how much we enjoyed it. hahaha
@priscilla, thank you!! + welcome!
@diana chang, your mom was onto something…
I just love these pics!!
Parker totally resembles you in the 3rd picture with that scrunchy smile!!!! 🙂
He is soooo cute!!
my son does this ALL the time!
Just spent some time looking around your blog…you've got a new follower!! xoxo
That chair idea is perfect!!
I am currently preparing all my cooking either on the floor or on my boys' little play table – just so they can watch everything (and don't try to climb up my legs)…
And yessss to "are all toddler boys climbers?". With twin boys at one and a half years I can totally agree. 🙂
Hopefully this means you'll have some help with the dishwashing in the future!
I highly recommend this ikea stepstool – it's cheap, sturdy, perfect high countertop height. Our kitchen life got so much better once we got this for our toddler. He scoots it around to wherever the action is in the kitchen. (of course, it is possible to fall, which he's done, but it wasn't a huge deal and it's still way more stable/safe than chairs)

Wow- he looks just like the two of you. Adorable little boy.
@jr, thanks for the link! i just may get it!
@jennifer, thank you!
Cute! I remember doing this for hours when I was little. My neighbors used to joke about setting up a pulley system between our kitchens. Washing dishes is still one of my faves so maybe you're in luck!
Also, I've been reading for…a year? Two? I don't think I've ever commented though (laaame, Cheryl) so, hi!
This is so sweet! Unfortunately my sink never seems empty or clean enough to let my 21 month old play – but i'll have to work on that!! and yes – mine climbs too 🙂
that little smile of his! i die.
Such cute pictures. Makes me remember when my girls were little I actually used to line the chairs up like that in front of the sink so they could play up there and I wouldn't be so paranoid that they were going to topple off 🙂
This is awesome. AOI has been doing the exact thing. when is time to stop it becomes crys not anymore laughs. I line more chairs and let her enjoy washing the dishes
