as the saying goes, let me tell you the “thousand” words behind this here jolly pic:
parker, who loved the beach last year, hated it this day. i can’t totally blame him. the wind was whipping around and, when inland, the day was pretty warm, but it was cold on the beach. prob upper 50s? lindsey was pissed that she forgot her jacket (why didn’t you tell me to bring my jacket?!?!) and while i was telling her to improve upon said attitude, i re-adjusted the blanket we brought. my hand flung off the blanket and whacked william in the nose giving him a bloody nose in the process. then, i made the genius decision to bring gracie who immediately pooped on the beach – like the moment her feet hit the sand. passersby were staring. i did have some grocery store bags (thank GOD) in the car but not right with me. so while they stared i considered giving an ‘ol “we got this” wave. but i’m sure they were thinking, “SHE is the reason dogs aren’t allowed on the beach year round! somebody call the cops!” i wanted to extravagantly wave the bags around once we had them all elaine-from-seinfeld like: “LOOK EVERYBODY! BAGS! I AM PICKING UP MY DOG’S POOP!” but i didn’t. in fact, william picked it up, bless him. parker continued fussing. we packed it up about five minutes after getting there and went to a playground. all in all, i’d consider it a……. failure.
that is all. don’t let pictures deceive you, people.
i already told you this. but a. i have that hat you are wearing and b. this made me miss taking my dog to the beach
real life can be a real downer sometimes! but, hey, cute pic anyways!
This post made me lol, but thank you for reminding me that what we see in pictures isn't always the real story 🙂
Aw bridget….I feel you. I have days like that all the time. And I have to say this story just made me giggle a little too long at work.
My dog always seems to immediately need to poop when her feet hit the sand. To the extent that I've kind of stopped taking her to the beach, at least for now. I can't deal with the feeling of people staring. Too much pressure!!
I hate judgy dog poop people. But I love that hat.
Hahaha! What a mess! At least you tried!
I'm Sorry But thank you for the laugh!!! Love it!
Love that you are keeping it real 🙂 You are awesome.
@tracey, so much pressure. you can feel the judgy eyes while your dog is in that awkward poop squat. the worst!
Haha! I love truth-behind-the-magazine-perfect-picture-stories.
The picture is magazine perfect, so at least there's that.

why do dogs always do that at the most inconvenient moment?!? thanks for sharing your 1000 words 🙂
I had a day like this once…the girls loved the beach all the time but then had a super fussy day there out of the blue. I decided that "not every day at the beach can be one"!
And such is the life of a mom… most days! Love the dose of reality. This would make for a really funny series with other bloggers;)
haa thank you for sharing. this made me LOL.
I just found your blog and I really love it. You have beautiful kids, you take beautiful pictures…I am hooked! Newest follower here 🙂
thanks ragan! happy to have ya!
BAGS! Baby always poops in this immaculate yard down the street whenever we go on a walk. The standing there waiting for her to be done is the worst because I know the little old man who lives inside is watching. Dogs! Get it together!
Ha – I love the reality check that photos DON'T always tell 1000 words, and that photos we see on blogs aren't always indicative of reality. Thanks for sharing the juxtaposition. Also, great story. 🙂
what a great post. i love how your blog is so real. and aren't we all just real. let's accept the real. i wish more people were like you. : ) life isn't perfect, but that's what makes it life, you know. so thanks, bridget.
You're just too good!! I've been following you for a while, but never comment. So instead of continuing to read without commenting, stalker-style, I thought I would tell you how much I enjoy your posts. Whether they're about something or nothing they always have so much insight and personality and spunk to them 🙂
And in this specific post….oh so true! We are continually (or is it continuously??) fooled by a simple image. So yes a picture is worth a thousand words, if it could only speak!
