for awhile, it was william and parker, parker and william. and while the two of them are still quite the little buddies (tonight william called parker his “little nugget of joy”), parker has seriously taken to lindsey. she will be in the middle of something and he will grab her hand, lead her to a chair, sit her down, grab a book, and plop down on her lap with it. if she gets up, he pretty much whines at her till she sits back down again and continues reading. he’ll sit her down on the floor and dance around her. he’ll fuss when she goes upstairs, standing at the gate looking up at her demanding–with his eyes–that she come back down. i think he’s pretty much crushing on her big time and i can let this one slide because it’s his sister and he’s not able to actually marry her.
otherwise… off with her head!
but really. it is adorable. steve and i remark daily how parker has like the best life ever. he’s got these big siblings, too big to actually fight over toys with him and get competitive and nasty. but just right for chasing him, changing diapers from time to time, and overall, thinking he’s the sweetest thing ever. and they do. i think having a little one in a house full of teens or almost-teens is sort of the best thing ever. it softens their hearts and, you moms of teens know full well, teen hearts harden by the day. by the minute! but not around parker. he softens the hardest of hearts and, let me tell you, it is awesome. he’s like a little drug. a daily dose of dopamine! he runs around, spinning circles through our legs and saying his silly little words, and seagulling (read that here first!) every last cracker that someone else is eating and, it seems, he’s got everyone wrapped around each of his ten chubby little fingers.
right now, parker, you’ve got it made.

I recently just learned that I am pregnant again, and my other children are 9, 12, and 15. I have been worried that this large age difference would make it difficult, but your blog post has calmed my fears. Thanks for sharing at just the right moment.:)

yeah, i can imagine that that's the case! parker looks like he could soften the spawn of baalzebub's heart, he's so damn cute!

oh, so sweet. it will be fun to have a bigger brood. <3
and how encouraging for those like krista up there!

oh gosh, little nugget of joy? how sweet is that?? also, looking at that first picture especially, Parker is looking less like Steve and more like his mama. those eyes!

i was the teen/almost teen when my sibbies were came home (i was 10, then 12, then 15 when they were born), and i gotta say, it was awesome. if lindsey's anything like me, she's over the moon about having a real-live baby doll to play with. my brother and i (he's 18mos younger than me), when we were 10 and 9 years old used to sit side-by-side with stacks of books, with my newborn sister laying across both our laps, reading to her. every couple of books, we'd get my mom to flip her, so we each got equal time with her head and her bum.
this is the stuff of life, bridge. parker's lucky, but so are william and lindsey. they get to be forever shaped by the adoration of this little person. it changes you. in amazing ways.

love this comment, thanks friend.

It's obvious how much they love him! And he must love having all those older siblings to love him!
It must be a really cool experience having a little one around when you are a teenager. I bet it gives you a bit more insight into the skills you need to be a parent (eventually) than the average teenager would have. Sure, I babysat as a teenager, but honestly I knew nothing about the challenges (or joys, really) of dealing with a little one!

So sweet 🙂 I can remember when my sister (who is 10 years younger than my brother and 15 years younger than me) was born, and it seemed like each week she would have a different "favorite." She'd go through phases of being obsessed with my brother, and then me, and it was the cutest (except lets be real, i'd get jealous when it was my brother's turn.)

Such a cutie! Makes me look forward to my friends' babies reaching toddlerhood (instead of mourning their newborn baby smell). What a lucky little guy Parker is to have such great siblings (and parents!).

Colton, my 3 year old, is spoiled rotten! Emilee (13) will make him lunch and dinner and then take him outside for a picnic. Zack (12) will play ball and wrestle with him. They are so lucky to have these older siblings! Parker is seriously adorable!

Parker Hunt-living the dream! This is a sweet post, Bridget. If I have a 4th baby in ten years, I could have a 15, 13, and 10 year old. I'm considering it.

i am 22 and have brothers that are 12 and 5. i can't imagine it any other way! i absolutely love that i am able to remember everything about our lives together from the day they were born.
(not only the mushy cute stuff, but it's worked as PHENOMENAL birth control for me as well!!)

So sweet, and so true. 🙂
I was 13 when my baby sister was born, and i can say she softened my bitter/angry teen heart better than anyone else! I think my mum would have had a much harder time with me if the little cutie had not been around. Win-win!

How great to see Parker bonding with his big sister. I'm a big sister and my little brother and I have a very special (almost maternal) relationship. It's a little bit more tricky now because he's hit the teenager phase and sister is not as cool as brother any more.

My brother was born when I was in 9th grade. It was a joy to have him around as a baby/toddler. I am only sad I missed so much of his "bigger kid" life by being away at college and moving into grown up life. 🙁
He's about to graduate from college this year. Yikes! That baby, my little bug??

happens too fast, doesn't it?! my oldest sister is 12 years older than i am, so i have the same type of situation!

this is true. i witness my tween son being the softest, and most gentle when my twelve month niece is around. this would actually be a good reason to present to the husband as to why we absolutely need another little one in the house!
he is so adorable. i'm newish to your blog and been reading up this morning, just in case you wondered…well who is this weirdo? haha.
