last week sydney tagged me in that whole five random things about me and… where to begin? what to share?? what five things among millions of totally titillating things do i even choose?!
enough. i’ll just pick five. truth be told, there aren’t thaaaaaat many. (i lied! there totally are! i’m really interesting!)
1// i can tap dance. i’m not like a star, no fred astaire here but i’m decent and maybe i’ll whip out a ‘lil home video one day if you’re lucky. maybe i can even get steve to do the splits (he can!!). a hunt talent show! i highly doubt it though because he embarrasses easily (too easily if you ask me). the only times he whips out that gem of a party trick is when he’s got a few drinks under his belt and we’re at a wedding. otherwise, it’s pretty much a no-go.
2// i almost always have music playing. spotify, pandora, my ipod. i’m not a complete silence kinda gal, sue me! and i think i’m passing on the love for music to parker (yes, yes! it’s definitely my doing! go me!) because the kid can carry a beat! he dances all the time (and these days the tune that gets him out of an incredibly concentrated puzzle-solving-stupor is big parade by lumineers). and, because i’m generous, i’m sharing my latest playlist here.
3// i’m one of four girls. some say, “your poor dad” but i say whatever to that ish. (and he loved having all daughters, for serious.) we were not girly girls by any means. we did sports and all that jazz so he got his fill of, you know, whatever men need to get their fill of. i’d say, though, that i was the daughter with whom he got to watch all the normal movies guys like to watch. that is a long and confusing title but, basically, a shoot-em-up movie? i was his gal. we watched the first godfather together, last of the mohicans, platoon, and everything in between. i still love those movies cause they remind me of him, i guess. pass the popcorn!
4// i loved high school. i’m learning more and more that this is highly unusual. most of you hated high school? is it true? i had great friends, guys and girls, and generally we were all really nice to each other. am i remembering this right, guys? also, i am coming up on my ten-year reunion this thanksgiving which is THE CRAZIEST.
5// i grew up in a pretty affluent town. we had a nice home but were not terribly rich ourselves. while a lot of my friends were driving pretty sweet cars, i had this (technically that’s an ’82 but plymouth wasn’t making any leaps and bounds in body style two years later.). a 1984 plymouth horizon. (mind you, i too was born in ’84. really, we were meant to be.) it was a matte gray which, i’m not sure, was its original color but rather what it became over time. it was given to us for free. my sister and i shared it. if it rained too hard, the floor of the passenger seat flooded so my dad drilled a hole in it to drain. you could hear it coming from blocks away. my dad was a fireman in our town and, for fire prevention night, the car finally met its demise when we volunteered it as the demo car for the ‘jaws of life’. you jealous?
and i nearly forgot! i’m supposed to tag youuuuu now.
(i feel like i should both apologize for tagging you and demand that you DO IT.)

Those are fun! I loved high school too. I went to a smaller high school than most where the class sizes got smaller as you got up to 12th grade because of being a overseas school for military kids. But I just remember it being a great time from 7th – 11th grade.
Thats awesome you tap. I keep throwing out the idea to take an adult ballet class because i havent done it since i was a young girl. I think my last tap and ballet class was 7th grade.

I drove a 1990 Pontiac 6000 in high school, also matte grey. We called him Ralph.
And my 2001 Grand Prix flooded in the passenger side when it rained, so I guess it's not just an old car thing!

My dad heard "you poor man" all the time only he has 9 daughters. Yes, I said 9. And 2 sons of course too. Can't forgot the boys. Although it was easy to sometimes. My dad started Man Day so he could go out and do fun guy stuff with my younger brothers because sometimes they got overlooked. My dad loves having so many girls. He says so. 🙂 And one of the great things about having so many kids? They've all rallied around him since he ended up in the hospital a couple of weeks ago when he had a stroke. He's almost never alone, someone's always visiting and bringing a grandkid or two. I wish I could be there for him too but he's in Maine and I'm here in Florida. :/
bridget says
@hannah, you are one of ELEVEN?! oh my gosh. what a fun (and crazy) household that must have been to grow up in.
Emily Baker says

I had a pretty good time in high school too! It's funny that I don't look bac on it negatively when many do. Middle school and before are a whole different story but hey.
Gesci says
I'm one of four girls, as well, and none of us turned out girly! As for high school, it was rough to start but then I was given the opportunity to learn some pretty big life lessons (read: had a major falling out with the group of girls with whom I primarily hung out) and had a fantastic last year and a half.
Oh, and "quality of sound system" is a major factor in car buying for me. So yeah.
Fun post!
Kaity says
I really enjoyed high school as well! for the most part. I kind of hated my school (not the classes, just the school itself), but I had awesome friends, and we knew how to make the most of things.
I can also take the craziness one step farther and I say that I really enjoyed middle school as well. yeah, that makes me pretty weird. but I loved my school, I loved my teachers (all three years' worth), and I loved my friends and my classmates – we had a pretty close-knit environment going on. and I guess all of that love helped cover up the general awkwardness of the middle school years.

Please show us the tap dancing. We need the tap dancing.
Is Spotify worth downloading again? I do want to finally hear your playlist.
PS: Ditto to four and five. 89 Volvo station wagon.

love this! your first car sounds amazing…i had a cavalier that used to stink when it rained, i don't think we ever found the leak entirely.
i did a five things post too, it made me feel like i was part of an AOL chain email (in a good nostalgic way!) 🙂
jackie says
I can tap dance too! I danced all through school and miss it a little bit. I'll come over, we can choreograph a routine, record it, and share it for the blog world to see. Get your tap shoes ready.

okay that took 45 minutes to type because of Sebastian's affinity for waving forks and knives in Theo's direction.
sorry for being so um … brief?
Alex says
LOVE. Tap dance for us plz? And I also hated high school. I just wasn't very cool and really was in an awkward stage of my life. Plus girls were straight up mean to me. Ugh.
Nessa @{Casa Braaflat} says
tap dancing we need to see!
also high school was not my jam. i was painfully shy and didn't have many friends (just a couple of good ones that I still love and share life with to this day).

Need to see this tap-dancing/splits business, ASAP.
Socially, I did love high school. For the most part. There was one "rough" period, but it passed quickly. I do look back on that time pretty fondly…I was always having so much fun!

You have the best writing style, I feel like I'm sitting right next to you and chatting.
Aaaand, you liked high school? No! No! Looking back I was so awkward and thought I liked it, but…no.
I also drove a matte gray Chevy Spectrum. That thing was a beast. Everyone needs a beater car, right? It's to remind of of how far we've come:)
bridget says
@sienna, thank you!!
@because of jackie, thank you so much! and i agree on the beater front. though, my current car is a 10 year old minivan with over 200,000 miles so i don't know that i've come TOO far. one day… a new minivan awaits!! 🙂
Emily {exclaim and murmur} says
Ooo, re: the music. Have you tried songza? So good.
Also, I decided to write a list, too. Woot woot!
bridget says
@emily, i haven't! what's it like? pandora?
Emily {exclaim and murmur} says
hmm, different than pandora, a little. they say they are 'playlists by music experts'- i say, i love that there are no audio ads. you arrive on the page, have a few options for whatever time of day it is ("music for cooking/studying/working out/working") and then, bam, playlist. it's lovely.
Rachael says
apology accepted.
I had a lot of fun in high school, especially senior year. But yes, you're right, we mostly just complain about it these days.

I have to agree with you on liking high school…I did also. My ten year is this summer and still trying to wrap my mind around going. Probably because I think I still am in high school, awkward I know.
Anna {dear friend} says
I liked high school! I had a great friends, too, which I think makes all the difference.
And yes to music playing in the background of life. My sister's friend works for that Songza (mentioned above) and it's really great– look into it!
Sorry I'm blowing up your email with all these comments. Didn't get around to my weekly reads last week! BUT YOU LOVE IT.
And! Love your new url! BALLIN'!

I started following your blog b/c of the $1500 giveaway a few weeks ago.
I am also one of 4 girls! No brothers. Our teenage years were terrible with our PMSing and fighting, but now we are all best friends. We started a blog – http://www.thefourjs.com – which has been fun.
