the other night i was putting parker to sleep. our usual routine. pajamas on, brush teeth (he hates this. so, confession: sometimes i skip it.), read a book, tell him his feet are stinky and he laughs… then we turn on the white noise, sit down in the rocker, and i nurse him to sleep. this particular night, he was taking awhile to settle down (who am i kidding? this happens often.). he’d had a long nap ending at 4 pm so i suspect he wasn’t tired enough. nursed one side, then wanted the other. did some nursing gymnastics (they truly believe your boob is not actually attached to your body sometimes, yes?), and then after about 45 minutes finally got sleepy and began to close his eyes. in the dark, i knew he was beginning to go into sleep because the nursing became sporadic and he was still and quiet. after at least five minutes of this, i thought he might be asleep, but i still whispered: “how much does mama love you?” and, he did what he always does, and with his one free arm, stretched it sleepily up into the air as if to say “thiiiiis much!” then he put it back down and went to sleep.
i died right there on the spot.
p.s. this is the bedhead of a toddler who has lots of hair. every morning and every nap. boy needs a stylist. and do you know he’s had at least 3 trims thus far?
p.p.s. and remember this post? when i said i needed bedroom inspiration i meant i wanted to do the exaaact same thing i saw on pinterest.

I recently came across your blog and am loving it! I too have a 17 month old so can really relate. We're trying for a second and I want to "clean up" my skincare regimen (free of icky things like parabens and phthalates). What did you use while you were pregnant…facial cleanser, moisturizer, makeup, etc. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks so much!

So, wait, is that a decal or something on your wall? Did you paint that? Chalk board? ugh, I love it. I wish I had normal walls sometimes instead of living in a canvas hut. Fo realz tho.

Ooh, that is the sweetest. These are the stories that make want to have all the babies. My sister married a man with strong Italian blood and their 2 year old boy has had 16 haircuts in his lifetime. Absolutely crazy. I love Parker's fluffy hair.
bridget says
@nicole, no it's a shanna murray wall decal!
@alex, youuuu better not.
@erin, THAT is a lot of hair cuts.

Do you nurse to sleep? I have a 7 month old and am always having to nurse to get him to go to sleep and I feel like I'm getting into a bad habit! (Or am already in one.)
bridget says
@allison, i do. sometimes he doesn't fall asleep from nursing and then i rock him till he does. it may be a bad habit, but i like it!
Amy Robertson says
Ooh…this made me want to cry. Him with the hand outstretched, nearing sleep. I loved that time with all of my babies.

Ah! We have a long haired toddler too – at only 14 months I'm not ready to cut it yet, but it is CRAZY in the mornings. Lord knows I'd be happy if I could get such natural volume 🙂

sweetest post. I love your story, and couldn't agree more with the fact that these little ones just do whatever they want nursing. The boob is at their mercy ha ha!
