in civita di bagnoregio, there is about the coolest house ever. it’s carved into the volcanic stone, and has these amazing underground rooms. people ask me what my house is like? “meh, colonial.” how much more fun to be all, “oh, just a house carved into the volcanic stone with underground passages all atop a huge fortress-like mountain top in italia.” i mean, you’d never need a date night again. you, your hubs, a bottle of wine, and that pool?! done.
thanks for sending ahnika-doesn’t-have-a-blog-anymore-johnson!

Um, can that be for-real?
I want to move in…now.
i want to go live there, NOW! it's so beautiful
God that pool, perma date night indeed
I don't think I'd ever leave if I stepped foot inside there.
I'm never going to be satisfied with my house now. Jeez, thanks a lot. JK- this is amazing!
Can we all just move there together? I bet we wouldn't even know if anyone was home or not.
i knew you'd post it. that's why i sent it.
I've never commented before but I had to when I saw this post! I JUST went to Civita di Bagnoregio last March with my husband while we were in Italy–it was my favorite place we went. It is amazing to see this house because from the outside, you'd never imagine these amenities! Amazing!
I think the school should fund you and Steve (and the kids) to go stay there so that you can both write there. I mean the general public could really use some insight into what it would be like to say and live here, submerged in such rich culture. It would actually be really selfless of you. "For the good of the arts." There has got to be some kind of grant for this.
uhm. mine.
and Ahn is lame.
ugh. get ahn back on the blog bandwagon.
Amazing! Do you speak Italian? What does the sign in the kitchen say?
Umm, yeah, that makes me want to book a flight and put my house on the market! I'll make do on a cot in a volcano with underground tunnels.
I'm sad that your friend doesn't have her blog any longer; it was on my Reader blog-follower thing and I always enjoyed her sarcastic, witty writing style.

I lived in Civita di Bagnoregio years ago studying architectural history and loved it so much. It is a precious gem of a town and so beautiful. I would literally pinch myself on a regular basis… even while bringing groceries on that bridge while walking. It is a pedestrian town, which only makes it an even more of a special place.
Thank you for a little drive down memory lane.

this is soooooooo sooo coool! gonna check on that. and tell my parents. maybe next summer
WHAAA?! I would never leave!
Very beautiful and total side note. Will you be adding commentary to this season of The Bachelor?:)
@abbey kennedy, ah, i'm not sure! i haven't seen it yet — we're away at the moment– and since we don't have tv and i'd be catching it online the following day, i'm not sure if it'll work as well as it has in the past!
@mademoiselle michael, i like where you're going w/ this…
oh wow, amazing

That is such a cool house! My family used to live in Florence and we lived in a house that was built in the 1300s. It was pretty fun to say, but not as much fun to live in…in a land where things don't change, things like heating and air conditions kinda get overlooked. 🙂

Wow, that's amazing! p.S. new to your blog Bridget, and loving it! Especially your posts about natural health, keep 'em coming! 🙂 XX Jessica
Oh my goodness did this bring back memories!! I studied in Orvieto in college, and LOVED visiting Civita di Bagnoregio!
Ah. to go back. some day!

Thanks for posting this castle! Really kewl! Same goes for what I've seen of the rest of your blog.
Matter of fact, ck out my blog, although not as wonderful looking as yours. 🙁
I've been to Civita! My sister and I took a bus there from Orvieto in 2004. It is magical, like walking back in time. It was definitely a place I'll never forget.
