the game: gallop down the street on toy horse
the rules: don’t stop galloping. don’t break character even if a passerby or car passes. don’t break southern accent. yell things like: giddyup, ride ’em cowboy, woah, nelly (or something in the same vein)
why?: lindsey’s been begging for horse-riding lessons for the past few days (after watching a movie with a horse and a girl in it, of course). steve and i told her we can’t afford it, it ain’t happening. she still begs. you know how it goes. we do, however, have this toy horse for parker and i suggested, as straight a face as i could, that she take lessons with that. “around the kitchen island, lindsey! three times! say ‘giddyup!’ work on your posture! that’s it, shoulders back!” she tried really hard to act annoyed but that didn’t last long. then… i double dog dared her and william to go down the street doing it. can’t say no to a double dog dare, come on!
totally shocking, but william won. even when a car drove by. (he’s typically the ‘gots to keep up the appearances all the time’ guy, but not this time!)
and that’s how it’s done.

I just got a groupon for horseback riding lessons in Scituate RI!! Is that too far from you? If not, I can check to see if it's still good. It was 5 half hour group lessons for $69. My niece is also dying for horseback riding lessons. Those girls and their horses.
PS: I actually think Lindsey looks like a rider.

LOVE it! Me and my friends used to do stuff like that all the time growing up, but I am mainly impressed they didnt break character because we normally busted up laughing too soon and ruining it 🙂

Coolest kids ever! I love that! This is the kind of random stuff summers (and childhood) are made of:) I wish so badly I was one of the passerby's. This just JUST the kind of crap I did with my friends (although, more embarrassing we were in highschool!) We'd have fake seizures in the middle of the mall, and first one to get a stranger to stop and ask for help, won. So mean. I also, maybe, owned a gorilla suit that I wore for extreme spying.

I totally understand her. After watching The Horse Whisperer twice in one week I was obsessed with the idea of horses (and Robert Redford, of course).

I wanted lessons and my parents couldn't afford it either – so here is my suggestion.
There are oftentimes a number of charities that work with horses and children with disabilities. If you get her involved with an organization like that she will be able to get some face time with horses – washing, walking, mucking stalls, etc. Often, if you volunteer often and have a relationship with the owners they'll let you exercise the horse. Either way, it's awesome for all involved.

Ha ha ha ha ha.
On a more serious note… I grew up with horses and think that riding and bonding with horses is one of the best things a kid can do. I just wish they were more accessible for everyone (especially me now that I am grown up and no longer surrounded by horses and land). Everything about horse riding is expensive. Maybe look for stables that offer horse camps. They are more affordable than individual lessons.

They have got to just adore you…that's pretty creative, I must say!
