food: burrito bowls. good when you can’t think of anything else for dinner too. my favorite? ground beef or pulled chicken, sauteed red peppers + onions, black beans, cilantro, brown rice, salsa, spinach, some shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream (and maybe some creole seasoning sprinkled on top). delish. some awesome variations on it here.
music: oh man. gotye’s making mirrors. so friggin’ good (most of it). and i don’t even like somebody i used to know. if you don’t either, don’t write him off based on that song. his cd is so good. save me has been on repeat these days.
Save Me by Gotye on Grooveshark

Music: Nothing new, but the bands Red and Skillet are my favorites
Books: Too many to mention. But my favorite has to be the Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers. The books are like 500 pages each but I've read them at least 3 times. I hardly ever re-read a book unless I really LOVE it.
Mary De Bastos says
Food: Stuffed Peppers. We're kind of obsessed right now. We want peppers on everything.
Book: 'Montana Summer' by Jeanette Miller was amazeballs! Read it on 1 day. I love when that happens. I can't stop thinking about it either.
Music: 'Don't Wake Me Up' by Chris Brown. Yes, even with the whole abuse thing I love his voice.
Alissa says
Food: Pinning lots of recipes for pulled pork, yet to make any of them.
Book: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Really good so far.

CRAZY – I have recently discovered burrito bowls as well! So easy, so yummy!
food: chicken thighs in BBQ sauce simmered on stove all day. holy delicious. OR, chicken thighs, maple syrup, rice wine vinegar & dijon mustard. (cheap, easy & always good)
music: kenny chesney's greatest hits. the only thing that relaxes me on the rush-hour commute home with the windows down this summer – hah!
book: just finished the new york regional mormon singles halloween dance. It was so cute.

I'm thinking burrito bowls are going to become a new Branflake staple. Looks delicious and healthy.

"easy way out" is my favorite gotye track! the album is sooo much better than that one song 😉 my fiance is a composer who works a lot with synthesizers, so i also have a weak spot for "state of the art."

fav books? : currently reading game of thrones. i know, i know. but the HBO series is just so damn addicting.
aside from those: animal vegetable miracle, the beautiful things heaven bears, harun and the sea of stories, midnight's children, dark star safari. that should keep you busy for a while!
food: we love cooking from our simply in season cookbook. our favorite lately is the summer burritos: basically, you boil your meat with a whole chopped onion + some garlic and serve it up with an equal portion of guac. nomnomnom. (i basically see mexican food as a vehicle for guac anyway.)

LOVE burrito bowls!! I always love your music suggestions, too, by the way..

I also make "burrito bowls" or salads, as I like to call them, almost weekly. I've been on a HUGE quinoa kick and use that instead of rice. Just adds lots of protein. And I quirt a whole lime over it all. Oh, and I cut up an avocado. Yum, yum, yum!
I'm reading Arcadia right now which is pretty interesting. It's about a boy who grows up in a commune in Upstate New York in the 70's. Sometimes I think I could have been a hippy in a commune.
ajr says
…and I mean squirt, not quirt.

Belong to Me by Marissa De Los Santos IS so good! Another must read is the prequel, Love Walked In by the same author.
I just read Never Let Me Go–great dystopian storyline.

Thanks for the burrito bowl inspiration. I made a variation of this tonight using some of our taco leftovers from last night and some goodies from the garden. Never thought to do that, but if Chipotle can, why can't we? 🙂

Oh how I LOVED Devil in the White City! I read it almost 10 years ago and have found very few people who liked it as much as I did. Which is why his latest book, In the Garden of Beasts, was such a disappointment to me. 🙁

Burrito bowls remind me of how much I miss tex mex and how hard it is to find in Europe. Yum!

Who doesn't love talking about their current favorites?! Such a good way to focus on the positives and some of the simple things that bring us joy 😉
Lately, my favorites…
Food: (it's winter in Australia, so these are a bit wintry) roasted sweet potato and pumpkin, chopped and covered in a mixture of sea salt, cumin, cayenne, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, coconut oil and a little sweet extra virgin olive oil. WITH beef stew. The kind you chuck any inspiring ingredients into the crock pot in the morning while the kids get dressed for school. This week it had tomatoes, Italian herbs (dried), onion, garlic, zucchini, etc.
Music: the seet voice and simple pretty melodies in a few Kina Grannis songs (her video for "in your arms" is amazing stop animation with jelly beans creating the pictures. Its on YouTube along with the making-of. Check it out!)
Book: just started reading The Alchemist for the first time, finally. Am still. In the beginning when the shepherd boys about to be reunited with the girl he began to love over a conversation they had the year prior.
And now I will go watch Parker's one year video. awwwww
