While perusing your blogs yesterday, as I always do every morning (and sometimes afternoon and night), I saw Jora’s lovely blog makeover (go see… it’s realllly nice) done by Ana at Live and Enliven. I have been wanting a three-column blog for forever now but am HTML-illiterate and am a bit afraid that I will hit some invisible button that will then delete my entire blog, so I asked Ana for some help and an hour later–poof!–it was done. There is my tip for the day. Your blog needs some help? Ask Ana.
Another tip for the day. Use coconut oil on your skin, your face…my Mom even uses it, sparingly, as a sort of pommade for her hair. I haven’t gone that far. It feels really nice on your skin though and is apparently fabulous for it (and it has yet to make me break out… cause I know that’s what ya’ll were gonna ask next). I only do it at night though since it’s sort of, well, oily. Apparently it is among the healthiest oils out there to use in cooking, but I think it gives too much of its own flavor and I’m not a fan. But, if we’re talking health, apparently this guy and olive oil are the only two we should be using. Sorry, canola.
And another one. Ugh, am I sounding all sorts of self-important giving you all these tips? Yes? Well don’t take them then! There’s just no other blog-material at the moment. Anyway, here goes. Buy raw milk. Ooh, this one might make the comment board a little heated. Maybe not. I’m not sure. But some people feel very strong in their anti-raw-milk sentiments. My friend Jessica has been drinking it for years and loves it, same with my parents, and guess who found a nearby raw milk source just yesterday?! ME! You walk in this barn and grab however much you want from the refrigerator and then leave your money… an honor system. I felt like I was in Little House on the Prairie. Next time, I’m going in a bonnett and an apron. Loved it and the milk is delicious. If you’re interested, this site lists them by state.
And finally, if you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one you’re with.

Bridget! olive oil is also a little strong….i am afraid to try it in my baking…have you tried it?
coconut oil on the face? if your mom does it, i am sold.
and you know that i am completely and utterly (no pun intended) jealous of your cute barn raw milk place???!! it is like my dream come true.
love you. love your blog.

hey linds- nice pun! you so clever!
i've never tried coconut oil in baking yet but i am going to–you sort of need to let it sit out though to get to room temp (it hardens when cold)… i dont think i'd use olive oil in baking. and yes, you would have LOVED this barn/farm. i made sure to say hello to all the cows providing me with their milk.

my husband does the coconut oil in his hair and on his face. His face looks great, but I hate it in his hair. So he's used less so it is less oily. I just can't bring myself to do either.
As far as cooking. We make brownies a bunch for potlucks. We use the Chocolate Ghirardelli brownie mix. I think it calles for vegetable or canola oil. Well we did half coconut and half canola and we thought the flavor came out amazing! you will have to try it.
Also we make pan fried chicken nuggets in coconut oil with wheat flower that I think are delicious! One of my favorite dinners.

love it. also, sesame oil is really great — especially in the change of seasons. i am really into ayurvedic health (nerd alert!). i bet you'd really like some of the holistic + natural ways of ayurveda. xxxo!
ps. love the 3 column look. hurray!

Ha! If bloggers never dished out advice like you just did then blogs would cease to exist! Love the advice and I especially love the last one.

I have spent countless hours (yes, hours) trying to get a three column blog and have yet to figure it out. Maybe I need to contact Ana. Your blog looks fabulous, by the way.
And I've heard coconut oil works wonders, but haven't tried it yet. Do you leave it at room temperature for applying it on your face or do you refrigerate it? (Does this question even make sense? I'm running on minimal sleep here…) xo

1. I totally made my blog 3 columns by random trial and error and LUCK. no idea how html works. it is scary. it is a miracle nothing was lost in the process!!
2. i looove coconut oil! it is so delicious. too bad coconut is one of the three foods on earth my boyfriend can't stand 🙁
3. LOVE this song! it is one of those that will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, but I don't even care.

What does it do for your skin? Just make it soft…or is it magical and fights cracks in the sidewalk…a.k.a…wrinkles?
Ms. Emily Ann says
I have been hearing so much about coconut lately, but have never thought of putting it on my skin. I may have to try it! And luckily, I am with the one I love 🙂
bridget says
i'd say that it makes it soft… and i'm not totally sure what it does for wrinkles. good question though..

just googled "raw milk in santa barbara" and most of what came up was "DANGER: RAW MILK" hmmm…you'll have to explain this to me via gchat. but i've had milk straight from the cow before, so isn't that the same?

Love the coconut oil. We put it on our grilled cheeses to give the bread a nice crispiness to it. And I haven't tried raw milk but I totally support it!

I heard coconut oil is also good for the hair, as a conditioner, but my hair goes greasy if I even so much as look at a bottle of oil, so I might steer clear. But for the face maybe – as long as it avoids my hair at all costs!
knack says
ha ha! love you….and I must try some coconut oil!
p.s. the blog looks fantastic!

Bridget's Mom here –on the subject of using coconut oil on skin, hair or for cooking — using it all over after a shower is great. Try not to put your clothes on immediately (3 minutes or so). However, I only use it on my face at night. As for using it on my hair — if I do that, I run my hands through my hair with what's left after oiling up the body from the neck down. It's nice on dry summer hair. It would definitely be too oily otherwise and may still be too greasy for some. Gives a nice shine. Keep a jar in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. No need to refrigerate. At room temp it's liquid. Otherwise, it's a solid but still spreads nicely. Another plus — IT'S SO CHEAP. Buy organic.
