these pictures feel so quintessential summer to me. especially that one of strawberry juice running down parker’s chin and sunscreen all over his nose. summer! it’s really here! we’ve had quite a few beautiful days in the last two weeks, so i’m starting to accept, no, embrace it. i think it’s here to stay.
today we went strawberry picking (you probably noticed that?) with rachael and her girls lux and joan. parker’s favorite thing in the entire world is strawberries (and blueberries, actually. fairly typical, yes?) so to discover the plant! that grows hundreds of sun-ripened beautiful strawberries! it was a little bit of an a-ha moment for him i think. at one point i looked down to at least three strawberries with nibbles out of them. he enjoyed himself thoroughly and we got to bring home two pints of strawberries (for $5 no less!) to enjoy at home. i always have these high hopes of making something with them, but we eat them all plain within about two hours of returning home so it never happens. does this happen to you too? rachael said she’d make a pie with them. i’m skeptical.
this age is so fun. he’s so communicative and so excited about these little outings we take. as i put him to bed tonight, the last thing he said to me is, “pahkah wake up, go strawberry picking ‘gain.”
you got it, buddy.

This looks amazing, and so summery and fun! I have never been strawberry picking, and sadly Alaska does not provide that opportunity 🙁 So I am loving these pictures!

So fun to do this time of year 🙂 Great photos. We tend to eat them pretty quickly, however to do something quick with just a few berries (so you can eat the rest), make popsicles! We are doing that right now!

Great photos! I'm happy for you that summer and sunshine got to you. The smell of sunscreen and strawberries screams summer to me as well. We're just waiting for the kids to get back from school, so we can go strawberry picking again, too. 🙂

So glad you captured these! What a day and what a moment in their lives…and Parker's love life! I can't follow up on that pie. Wish I'd never said anything.

I want to go picking something!! It sounds really fun and tasty! 🙂 I had a coworker once make a delicious strawberry dip, maybe you could try something like that? But really, why bother with a recipe when they're so good by themselves? Unless you just have too many to eat. But then…freeze them and put them in a smoothie! 🙂

probably the last question you thought you would get as a result of this post, but what kind of sunscreen do you use on parker? and how old was he before you started using it? i'm pretty wary about anything on my sweet baby's skin, but even more worried about the sun hitting her. help?

steph, good question. this was seventh gen but i also have used episencial. i definitely would've put it on his arms/legs around 1 year (keeping him totally covered before that–and his face covered almost always by a big hat!). he never had any reaction and both are very low on that toxicity scale… but i know! it's hard! i almost always have him in a shirt at the beach so there's less surface area to put the sunscreen on!

got it, thanks!…i haven't heard of episencial, but i will check them out.

I can hear his little voice through your writing! I am so excited for that… though not for the eventual talking back to me that's sure to take place 😉
