well, it’s been a crazy week… or, really, few weeks. and with more holidays approaching, i think it’s only going to get crazier. so, where to begin? we celebrated steve’s birthday!! we’ve gotten our pumpkins and gourds and, most importantly, apple cider donuts. we’ve enjoyed the last of the the beautiful weather (but, maybe, there’s still more to come?). we’ve seen big machines… parker was thrilled. he is already showing such boy behaviors and gravitating towards the books of cranes and bulldozers and trains. we have tackled lice and continue to (following a three-week protocol to be sure we are (and remain!) lice-free, thank you to a tip from a friend on instagram!). we’ve gone to halloween parties… myself as rosie, parker as a dog, and lindsey as the color pink! we have remained WITH power through sandy… which i’m so grateful for. kids with olive oil soaked hair (lice treatment!) really could use a hot shower before going off to school, you know? and thank you to everyone who gave me tips via instagram or twitter or email on the lice situation. situation indeed.
and finally, my family is all well down on the jersey shore! my mom and dad, and sister and her family remained with power, and water-free despite being only a few miles from both cape may and stone harbor beaches (have you seen the pictures?? it’s pretty awful. the beloved 96th street completely underwater as well as ocean city boardwalk.) sending lots of love to those who remain power-less or worse. i feel like things are just off lately. do you know what i mean?? some awful stories in the news (the nyc krim family story being chief among them), crazy weather affecting millions… i’m thinking of all of you out there. affected by something in some way, dealing with their own sadness or tragedy (makes me think of that philo quote). we’ve all got to stick together… shoulder each other’s burdens, you know?

can i ask what lens you're using for the bottom few?
Lindsay @ Trial By Sapphire says
Most importantly, I'm glad to hear you and all of your family are all right. Stay well!
Of course, Parker is adorable, per usual. 🙂
bridget says
@sarah eliz, thanks! the 50mm 1.8 is what i used for all of them. it's a cheap lens (as far as lenses go!) but sooo much bang for your buck.
{annie_loo} @ The Farrar Four says
That picture of Parker and Steve. I love it! So cute!
Glad y'all are rid of the lice. EEKS. Perhaps you should post a tutorial and we'll all PIN it for when its our turn! Would be a glamorous post you know! 😉
I'm glad your family is safe! All this news is so sad. I just want to stay glued to the tv, waiting to see what happens next.

Glad to hear you adn the fam are keeping safe and dry! That lice sure has some great timing? (and my husband is friends with Marina and Kevin Krim and it's just the most horrific unimaginable thing in the world. I don't even know how you go on living after something like that.)
Andrea {Yesterday's Tomorrow} says

because I basically never tune into the news, I did not know about the Krims! Now I'm just sitting here stunned. In a totally not relavent way, but historical, it reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright and how his wife and children were murdered by their housekeeper's husband. I guess I'm thinking of that as a way to process the story myself? How awful and unbelievable.
Dancing Branflake says
I am in love with that plane photo. And the ones on Instagram are so beautiful.
Being on Twitter is breaking my heart. Prayers to them.

I read about that NYC family. So sad. And with the hurricane…so many bad things lately.
On to good things, I love that Lindsey wore the color 'Pink' for her costume. I've never seen that before, and I love that it's so creative and easy to do!
And Parker's costume is cute as well!
And that cake looks delicious!!

If it's any consolation to you, I have often heard that lice like clean hair, so don't blame whoever brought it home with them. It just means you're doing a great job, and hopefully once the situation is back to normal, you'll all appreciate "normal" more than ever before.
Life does seem overwhelming for so many reasons, I have to agree with you. I think we are all ready for a break in the political arena too- no matter which states swing which way. The weather is crazy in places and even here in the Midwest- miles from Sandy- some if us have our own drama. My situation is such that the rental home we're living in sold, and even though we had 60 days notice to relocate, it is proving to be nearly impossible to find a place for my family of 8. I have yelled, stressed, lost hours of sleep, wasted hours browsing Craigslist and real estate sites, contemplated moving back to MI to be a single mom of 6 if I do that, or downsize to a 2+ bedroom condo just to stay together. Let's just say lice sounds dreamy to me compared to what's been on my life plate the past few weeks. And yet in all of it I am overwhelmed with the reality that God knows how this will all turn out and I know from other events in my life journey that He will not fail me even now. So I trust. And even though I can't see it through the clouds, I am fully believing in beauty beyond this moment. I think that's what keeps us all going. We have hope and our faith reminds us that if we throw that away we have nothing to stand on.
I am looking forward to the calm after all these storms blow over…literally and figuratively. I hope to get my funny, narrative voice back soon too. Cause goodness knows life, whether in children's storybook time or otherwise, is much more fun when we sound like cartoons. 🙂 I am glad to hear you're safe and dry. My heart goes out to those who suffered losses if all kinds.
bridget says
@jody, oh man… i am so sorry! that is an incredibly stressful situation but i'm so glad you are keeping the faith and not letting yourself get too overwhelmed with it. best of luck!!!
jillian at faith that laughs. says
Parker is so cute!!! 🙂 I am praying for everyone effected from this horrible storm..so sad!
Michelle says
Oh Lice! My school is a lice breeding ground. It's the worst. I even got it from the kids last year. My hair is so thick and my poor husband had to comb it out. Ugh! Hopefully the situation is under control! good luck.
Michelle {lovely little things} says
Keeping your family (and extended family) in my thoughts + prayers through the storm.
LOVE Lindsey's costume, so creative! Parker's too, of course. Who can resist a lil pup?
Mary Beth says
oh girl! when i saw the photo of the shower cap? i knew. just knew. we dealt with it for 2 weeks and it would not go away…finally went to the doctor and after another 2 weeks we were lice free! i was sure i had it every night and would make "my" steve check my head. i want to start itching just now thinking about it. 🙂 i've been through a heck of a lot of things, but lice. that was brutal for this clean freak. hang in there!!!!
Kristen says
Ok, I was in MA this weekend visiting my twin sister at her college and I am 99% sure I saw your son!

ugh…the story of the linsley krim family just tore me open and hit close to home. I grew up with the mother's siblings (she is older than me) and I cannot imagine what she is going through. as a mommy-to-be it gives me a whole list of things to think about. 🙁
Hailey says
oh my gosh he's too cute!

My BFF was a teacher at a lower-income area school, so her kids kept on getting lice. So she learned to mix a bit of tea tree oil in every bottle of shampoo. It kept her kids lice free the whole time she worked there:)
