some days, we’re up fairly early in this house (you don’t say?!). other days, parker surprises us and sleeps in! until 7! old bridget would never have considered 7:00 sleeping in but new bridget… well, new bridget does a little happy dance complete with a shuffle-ball-change if the clock strikes 7 before her eyes are open.
anyway, this particular saturday morning, wake-up was around 6 or so. we hung around in bed for a bit… as long as parker would allow, really… and then i slowly made my way downstairs with the little dude (dad got to sleep in!) nestled on my hip. early mornings are usually spent in our study (fancy name for computer room) where you can shut the doors completely so the lucky sleepers aren’t woken by parker’s antics and the room also gets cozy warm real fast. it’s our favorite hang out room almost all the time, but especially in the chilly massachusetts mornings.
a few minutes later, down came william. the boy is always afraid of missing something even though nothing is ever ever ever going on at 6 am, but, nevertheless, he’s been waking at that hour for, oh, his entire life. so, parker, william, and i were killing time before the others woke up and breakfast and such began. i had a cup of coffee and we were all in our pajamas and it was chilly out, but not too chilly that a bike ride couldn’t be on the menu.
the neighborhood was quiet. we might’ve been the only ones awake. the sun had barely made its appearance yet. we bundled ourselves up, myself in steve’s vest and my uggs and parker wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, and went for a short bike ride. i can’t say i’ve been on my bike at 7 am too many times in my life, but nevertheless, this ride would have to be my favorite early morning ride. we made a quick stop at a nearby pond where william searched for some tadpoles and then back on our bikes we rode, returning home for breakfast. it was peaceful and special and quiet. pajamas, two of my boys, two bikes, and an early morning.
i think we’ll do it again.

Although I hate getting up in the morning…there is something peaceful and calming about being up earlier than the rest of the house to enjoy the silence 🙂

What a lovely thing to do with your two men … very special.
I wish I were more of a morning person, there is something almost sacred about being up when everyone else is asleep.

That reminds me of morning with my little brothers growing up. We'd all wake up early everrrry once in a while and make breakfast quietly together or just snuggle. As much as I love sleeping in, it's sometimes really lovely to wake up early just to have that quiet time.
Love the color of your bike, btw. So cute.

You know, I really think that kids think things are going on when they're not. I remember being that age and always wanting to be where my sister was, only because I didn't want to miss anything. I don't think I ever grew out of that!

Have to love these moments. I remember riding in one of those as a tike with my dad to the naval base and back on cool mornings.
I love those (VERY few) mornings I can walk the pups to the coffee shop and say hi to the nice folks from the retirement home. I'm the center of attention and can't say I don't love every second of it!
And wow! They make helmets that tiny! Look out Super Mom! He is too stinking cute for words, what a sweet nugget!

Totally random, but I had a dream last night that you had another baby boy and named him Dozer. Don't do that, k? I mean, please go ahead and have another gorgeous boy…just don't name him Dozer 🙂

If only everyone on the planet could soak up, savor, enjoy and simply just take in the little joys of the world around them we would all be better off. I am glad you three got to do it in the form of an early morning bikeride. And the rest of your fam got to do it sleeping in. =) Nice, all-around.

@jaclyn, a bell bike seat! it's great!
@wildandprecious, yes, totally in control — you hardly notice that the seat is there. do it!

We never got the bikes out…too cold, too many tornadoes.
It'll happen soon though. Pictures and everything.
