gracie turned two on saturday. as is the hunt tradition, she too got breakfast in bed. it was adorable. somehow it’s possible that we all fall more and more in love with her every day. she’s seriously stinkin’ cute. and she knows it. for her birthday, she got some brand spankin’ new treats and a couple fetching sessions in the sun. we also told her, in our high squeaky talking-to-gracie voices, “you’re two! you’re two years old, gracie hunt!” about a gajillion times throughout the day. so she knows something was special saturday but i’m not sure she knows what.
meanwhile, william turned 11 and also had the traditional breakfast in bed. his request was a green monster smoothie and cottage cheese pancakes. good choices, my man. he is still sweet as ever even though he had to move out of his room for the baby. that’s a good big brother. he loves us and shows us daily. he also is getting a bit into brand names, much to our dismay (especially steve’s). we gave him dc shoes for his birthday. well, did you know you’re not supposed to tie them like normal shoes? it’s the way all the kewl kids are doing it — you lace them so that all the laces go straight across and they’re pretty much permanently loose and unable to be tightened. when trying to figure out how to do it, i googled, “lacing shoes the punk way.” anyway, as i saw william trudging down the driveway this morning, walking like he had a stick up his bum (literally) because his shoes are slipping off his heels, it was a little sad and pathetic all at once. and before he left, steve exclaimed, “you’re cool william! isn’t our love enough?! don’t you feel loved enough here that you don’t need to prove anything?!” poor dad. at 11 impressionable years of age, no, our love is not enough. but, seriously, they’re a safety hazard so we might need to do something about those shoes. but, alas, i think we’re just heading into the major trying-to-be-cool stage (makes me so sad when kids go through this) and, for the record, we love you william! more than they do and certainly enough!
and finally, some of the little things i’ve picked up for baby along the way. i really haven’t gone overboard (husband even agrees!). with as many hand-me-downs as are coming his way, it’d be silly to do so, but when some crazy cute things and good deals come my way on zulily or gilt, i sometimes can’t resist. american apparel tanks for $5! i mean, can you just imagine a pudgy little baby with that cuteness on? or that furry blue suede winter hat? gah. can’t wait to meet the little guy, and yes, even dress him.

Oh what darling finds for your little one! 🙂
Elizabeth {e tells tales} says
Haha, William's shoes. We have that going on here too…he'll learn to walk in them soon enough, and then he'll want those ugly madras shorts and skater t-shirts.
But then he'll grow out of it. At least he eats well, right?
bridget says
@elizabeth – true. i can't complain too much when the kid asks for a spinach smoothie for breakfast. but goodness. he walked like each foot had 10 lb. weights on them. seriously.
little t says
Aw sweet- and happy belated birthday to gracie!
Diana Mieczan says
Awww..happy birthday to William and Gracie:) I also love all the new cute stuff you got for the baby:) Have a great day
Kisses
Reagan says
cute post. gracie is a doll. william, i want to hug him. there are worse things he could be doing to fit in besides tying his shoes, but all the same, it hurts to see kids worry about coolness. the best day of my life was the day i realized i didn't care anymore.
you are the cutest mom ev'.
bridget says
@reagan, true true. he could be rollin' joints in his bedroom. but yes, it is just a little heart breaking all at once!
no YOU are the cutest mom ev.
vintch says
happy birthdays all around! what a cute son:) my brother went through a similar phase and asked for lots of skateboards…must be a guy thing:) and i love the tradition of birthday breakfast in bed. what could be more fabulous?
Jenni Austria Germany says
i want this breakfast in bed. granted, i make myself breakfast in bed every day because i don't have a table in my tiny one room apartment, but….this breakfast in bed seems more special, for some reason.
Kim says
cottage cheese pancakes and a green monster… i love this.
i remember those cool shoe-tying days. now i hardly even wear shoes w/ laces.
Jenni Austria Germany says
and i mean william's. not gracie's.
Tucker says
your kids. lindsey wants to be amish. and william requests green monsters and cottage cheese pancakes. I kinna want to recreate such humans myself.
and graccciee and those suede booties are both reallllly reallly cute.
lady lee says
Happy Birthday William!
I want a green monster now.
Lisa says
just goes to show–everything is on the internet, umm lacing shoes the punk-way?? That cracks me up.
Moccassin bootie are so cute! And if you don't have a pair of these
http://www.target.com/Bobux-Ministar-Fur-Bootz-Chocolate/dp/B000X1ES36
coming your way, I'd seriously recommend for fall/winter. They stay on so well, match with a bunch, are easy to put on, and keep their tootsies warm.
MellyB says
Ugh, the things kids do to be cool are sooo not cool. When I was eleven in was the peak of awesomeness to slick all your bangs to one side and spray your hair til it was rock hard. So look on the bright side, at least he's not creating a whole in the ozone layer with his coolness. (sorry world!)
Two year old Gracie Hunt is cute, cute!
I love seeing cute baby boy things. I must invest in a few of those tank tops for summer. Your little one is going to look some cute in those moccasins!
Turbo says
B, I love search terms that you used for the shoe lacing instructions. Hahahaha. So good.
Maggy says
oh the DC shoes. they are a big old deal here in CO and I find myself watching the boys walk wondering HOW gravity has been so kind to them between their shoes and their jeans perfectly resting 6 inches below their waste – but you know what??? it's fine, about time them boys had to feel the pain of fashion. mean? I hope not.
xo.leslieanne says
heyyy, so I realize I'm not 11 (10 years older, actually!), but to be honest, all my boyfriends' shoes in high school never slipped off their feet. You can tighten them a bit more, just not TOO much, if that makes any sense. They really shouldn't be slidding off. The whole point is so you can skateboard without them falling off, but also so they don't snuggle your feet & hurt them when you try to do tricksss. So I'd say, tighten them a bit more, hah.
Anyways, cute stories about your little family <3 I wish we had a puppp.
becca says
Steve. He makes me lol every time. "Aren't we enough for you????!!!" HAHA.
Kacie says
gracie!! <3 shes so adorable.
and i TOTALLY remember watching the boys in junior high with their shoes flicking up and down as they walked.. it looked so weird.
Chelsea says
um you are simply gorgeous!
Rachael says
That is sweet that you gave your dog special treats for her birthday! Very cute.

I wish you could teach this husband of mine to make me that breakfast in bed on my birthday!
(Williams b-fast of coarse, not the dogs). And that baby of yours is going to be the cutest ever, I just know it. 🙂

Happy birthday, William & Gracie!
Oh green smoothies. How I love you. I just found out that if you have any sort of thyroid issues, raw spinach is NO BUENO, you have to cook it. So, no more green monster drinks for me. BUMMIN'. 🙁

Love y'all's shout-out to William. It's so hard being ten, eleven, and twelve, isn't it? As a sub, some of my absolute favorite days are the days spent in middle school, but my heart breaks for the kids you can tell are funny, smart and kind, but just DYING to fit in. Oh goodness. They'll figure out that it doesn't matter. Someday, at least.
And loving the sweet baby things! 🙂
{lovely little things} says
I love the breakfast and bed tradition (for everyone including Gracie).
stephanie [the merry way] says
Can I just say how all around great this post is? First of all, I love that you gave the pup her bfast in bed – I'm officially going to start doing that for Sadie, because it's our tradition but I've never thought of doing it for her – poor neglected thing! And I laughed out loud at your punk laces story and read it to my husband – to adorable. William seems precious!
Andrea Isabel says
What a cute little face that pup of yours has! And happy birthday to your son! I have never heard of cottage cheese pancakes before. I may just have to give those a try!
bridget says
@andrea, it's painful isn't it?! you want to shout "i promise, in a few years it won't be such a big deal and you'll look back and think the whole thing was silly!!"
@stephanie, your pup will love you for it! and i love the name sadie!
@andrea, do try them. they are soooo good.

Bear drooled over the first photos..and not because of the food..but because, and i quote "of gracies fine ass"

i love that you celebrate doggy bdays too. we always give our pup apples and peanut butter in his dog bowl. i'm talking like 2 slices of apple and a smidgeon of PB.. but he thinks it's awesome anyway.
Jen says
The "You're cool William…" comment had me laughing out loud..and almost spewing iced tea out my nose 🙂 Thank you for the post, as always, you're super fun to read 🙂
