me: what’s your favorite food?
l: (exasperated) you had to pick that didn’t you!? i don’t have a favorite food. unless you’re talking about soup…
me: okay, what’s your favorite soup?
l: taco soup.
me: who’s your favorite brother?
l: umm… who’s the least meanest? um… nathaniel. i don’t have a favorite brother.
me: then why’d you say nathaniel?
l: cause, i just thought of him first.
me: okay, who’s the best cook in the house?
l: me. (laughs) mom.
me: what do you want to be when you grow up?
l: okay. i want to be a couple of things. a comedian. a national geographic photographer. um… a pet trainer… a frog trainer. a circus freak.
me: are we done?
l: no! i want to be a princess. umm… and… i want to be a rich person.
me: what’s your favorite subject in school?
l: math, i think. spelling and math.
dad: who’s your favorite super hero, lindsey?
she pauses.
me: do you want to answer that one, lindsey?
l: no!
me: what’s your favorite game we play?
l: nerts! card games, i’ll just write card games!
me: what is your favorite season?
l: summer!
me: why?
l: because it’s hot, sunny, it’s a boating season, and it’s a free time.
w: i want to be a state trooper!
(he’s having trouble having the attention on lindsey at the moment)
me: i think we’re done lindsey.
l: no!
dad: what’s your favorite vacation you’ve ever been on?
l: ooooh. favorite vacation? the lake.

she is darling. i wanted to be about 14 different things when i grew up, too. and i am, i suppose. except they all involve my children and most of them require wet wipes.
