Since I was probably seven or so, Copperline has been one of my all-time favorite songs (click that link – you know you wanna). When I say that James Taylor’s soothing melodies do something to my soul I mean they do something to my soul. My friend’s Dad (Maria, this is you I’m talking about!) had the New Moon Shine CD and when I was at their house I used to pop it into the stereo and play Copperline over and over again. I was like nine at the time, which looking back seems a little young to sit and bask in James Taylor’s glory, but I was a strange kid maybe?
Anyway, I’ve said that if I had to only listen to one singer’s music for the rest of my life, it’d be him (but how many people really are forced, at gunpoint, to choose only one singer/band to listen to for the rest of their lives? I don’t read about that happening much on the news these days). This is hard because I’m a lover of Paul Simon too. And there are others. But man, that James Taylor. And it doesn’t stop at Copperline.
So, you can imagine the glee that would ensue if I were to ever meet James Taylor. Well, lookie here. I did. And I was star struck. Totally and completely.
(I was too embarassed to ask for a picture and I just didn’t want to be “that girl” so Steve asked for me and said that his daughter really wanted a picture with him. That would be Lindsey. She was oh, 4? Do 4-year olds typically ask for pictures with old singer/songwriters?).
(Also, Jordan went up to him before the show and said, “I really liked that Route 66 song you did for the movie Cars.” He said, “Well, I didn’t do that one, but that is a really good song.” Can you imagine!?!)
So, here I am, just sharing with you one of the greatest days ever.
Now go listen to some more James Taylor.
I might be personally offended if you comment that you don’t like him.
saw him two summers ago at the santa barbara bowl… did not truly love him until that moment.
James Taylor! Yes! His songs remind me of my dad, we always listened to him growing up.
I love James Taylor, saw him play a couple years ago!!
he is coming in may in Santa Barbara… with Carole King! Can't waitttt.
Still love that song and totally remember those days! Ohh Gene
aw, I love this story. I grew up in Lenox and didn't put it together until much later that the tall guy in the grocery store was the same one I saw at Tanglewood every 4th of July. I think I'll listen to some J.T. right now, it's been awhile. 🙂
I like James Taylor, he definitely has a soothing voice. How fun that you got to meet him.
I love James Taylor! What a sweet story. And that photo, too cute!
oh you met james taylor you lucky lucky gal. i was brought up to his music and bought all of the albums i could as a teenager. super picture!
okay, so maybe this is a little far-fetched…but…i can hear steve's voice a little bit when i listen to james. do you think perhaps as a little girl growing up you liked his music so much because somehow you sorta knew you would fall in love with the wonderful SAH one day??? i think i'll choose to believe it…very romantic. 😉
oh good good there are others out there who love on JT.
also if you LOVE jt you will also love david wilcox. check him out if you please.
rita, i think steve would like that 🙂 i shall tell him.
So you're comment about you possibly being a strange child is comforting because I thought perhaps I was strange at that age to love James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkle (And not Paul Simon), and Garrison Keillor. It is good to know that someone else has an appreciation for the good stuff!
shut up shut up SHUT UP!!!
WHERE was this?!
I totally did not want to be 'that girl' either, even though I had the chance. The ex's little bro was all about getting everything he had signed when he came out during intermission.
I am so not a groupie. But maybe for James…maybe I could be…
