A day in Boston last week and IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I could’ve plopped myself down in one of those windows and watched the snow come down with a nice glass of red wine for hours. Hope you are feeling the spirit wherever you are. Tomorrow is Anders’ 5th (!!) birthday! My baby… turning five. Woah. Have a good weekend!
cheetah here, cheetah there.
I am obsessed with the slip skirt trend happening right now. If you’ve seen any of the pins that have breezed past your screen lately, perhaps you’ve seen a lot of them, and that I’ve pinned a bunch of them too (this one being my very favorite). So when I noticed that this skirt finally went on sale, I decided it was the day to own both my first ever animal print, and also my first slip skirt. They’re just so pretty, and also easy to wear (most often, pull on! so comfortable!) most any season if you add tights. Plus, I love seeing one dressed down, like this. So, I decided to try this one, both ways.
sales, sales, sales.
I liked this J.Crew outfit so much, I made a little graphic with the colors. That sweater! Those pants! The heels! Anyway, if you’re avoiding sales and shopping this weekend, GOOD ON YOU. If you’re not, and you really like a deal, carry on. I hope this helps. I’m giving myself till noon to think about these sales and the money I might save and then I’m shutting my computer and walking away, so help me God! (Caveat: if I see a few other really good ones I missed, I might update this later on in the day.)
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
WOMENS’ GIFT GUIDE!
We could call this one, “the things Bridget would really like for Christmas” but I do feel like I’m every woman and every woman is me. Therefore, I’m thinking that you, yes you, might like this as well. Forward to your husband if so, putting bold asterisks next to the ones you really want.
KIDS’ GIFT GUIDE!
Well, well, well. The time has come for you to visit all your favorite blogs and be inundated with things to purchase instead of business as usual (which, let’s be honest, can still be an inundation of things to purchase–any time of year.). But, I do believe I’m throwing pretty worthwhile things your way. Things that have been vetted by none other than the Hunt boys (except a few that I think would be cool, and that they’d agree) over the last few years. I don’t love a lot of toys, nor do I think kids really love a lot of toys. I take that back–they like receiving the toys, but often, not much else beyond that. I find that kids and babies alike end up gravitating towards the non toys anyway. I hope you find this list helpful as you figure out how to manage Christmas shopping this year and what is worth spending your money on, and what’s not. It’s probably more geared towards 3-8 year olds, but that’s the world I’m in!
Notes for the Road.
I took some pictures of the Beautycounter holiday products a few weeks back for myself and my team, and it’s fitting to also put them here since today their Black Friday sale starts. 15% off sitewide, and free shipping over $50! Clean skincare for all! (Even if it’s not Beautycounter. Check the EWG for your products’ rating!)
early mornings.
I laid there thinking, I need to address Anders’ birthday party invitations. I should really work on a gift guide. I want coffee. And so I just got up, hoping that the time was a more reasonable 5ish than any earlier. Upon entering the kitchen, I discovered it was 5:30. Perfect. (Our only clock is on the other side of the bed, across three sleeping human beings, and it’s a clock you have to tap to have illuminate. Clarifying in case “umm, ever heard of a nightstand clock,” entered your mind.) As I was reaching for my absolute favorite mug though, another one, stacked precariously on top of it (with no one to blame for the poor positioning then myself), fell and chipped it. I have mugs that I hate, and have hated for years, that I’ve never chipped. Not one chip on the stupid things, and when I buy a mug I actually love, it’s chipped within a month. Isn’t that how it goes? I cursed to myself quietly, so as not to wake the house, and then decided the mug has more character this way. (Lies.) I’m drinking my coffee out of it now.
The prettiest Christmas things.
There’s a few Christmas things that I truly look forward to pulling out every year. Ones that delight me in their simplicity, their beautiful design, or their perfect purpose. We have this beautiful metal Norwegian Santa Claus given to us by a dear friend of ours that we hang on the tree, or the Advent candle wreath that I put in the center of the table and place greens around. Or how about the Giving Manger, which has become such a sweet and simple way to redirect your children’s minds to what Christmas is really about amidst the flurry of Amazon packages and making wish lists. (I really love the Giving Manger.)
I just was scrolling Instagram and practically gasped when I saw an ad go by (I usually ignore them!) for Heirloom Art Co. It was a video, with a few brass anglaspels all lit and chiming lightly on a mantle. It means angel chimes, which only makes them more special. The video conjured such a cozy, nostalgic, Christmasy feeling. Instagram actually did me a solid here. This Heirloom Art Co. is full of precious items that are sure to be, well, heirlooms. The things you will pull out, year after year, and treasure. I’m in love with all of them (look at this advent calendar! or this Noah’s Ark in a box! ), but I reigned myself in and just bought one Swedish anglaspel. Can’t wait to hear the nightly chiming when it arrives.
Any Christmas decorations that are so meaningful to you or any special shops I should know about?
some holiday looks + holiday makeup!
There’s no time like Christmastime to whip out that red lipstick that is tucked away most of the year, to do a winged liquid eyeliner (my personal favorite), to pull out the heels, and to festoon yourself–yes, festoon; it’s Christmas, baby–with glitter. Let’s talk holidaaaaaaay!
Notes for the Road.
I absolutely love this bedroom. I saw it when scrolling Pinterest. The bedding colors is what first got me. Do you guys have a favorite bedding brand? I want to do something similar in our guest room, but I sort of want a darker, moody wall color. I don’t have it in me to try a bunch of swatches though. I just want to know which one to go with, and to go with it! (I don’t have the patience for home design projects…) And as much as I love white, it doesn’t always translate to super cozy. Hope you guys have a good weekend!
