I’m waiting for beautiful weather, for school to end, for stems to poke through the dirt, to find the inspiration (courage) to get my tax documents ready, for my hair to dry, for that deposit to be made, for the Berkey to filter that water I filled it with, for that return to be refunded, for that book I put on hold at the library to arrive. I was walking behind Anders while he scootered yesterday. We were going to grab some pie crust at a local grocery store the other day–quiche for dinner. He was in an astronaut suit (the astronaut suit; still one of my best purchases, clearly–and from an H&M in Rome. Who’d have thought. Parker trailed me that day, insisting on it, and I remember thinking it was a little much for a kids’ costume, but here we are. It’s been well-loved and I’m probably holding onto it for their kids.)
Lately, chat form.
I had big plans to go to San Francisco this week, leaving this morning in fact (I believe the plane I was to be on is currently in the air.). Coronavirus had other plans.
snapshots from March 2.
One listening, one reading. (Magic Treehouse Playaway for Anders, I Survived for Parker)
Notes for the Road.
I could (and should) make a whole album of these two sleeping. Their sleepy cuddles are one of my favorite things about the family bed. I like to show them the next day and remind them in the midst of their fighting that they really do love one another. What are you guys doing this weekend?
Things to keep in your bag for being out and about with kids!
There’s a lot of waiting in life. Waiting at the DMV (the worst kind of waiting), waiting at the restaurants (better)… and with kids, double the wait time and add five and that’s what it can feel like. If you, like me, don’t give your kids an iPhone to pass the time–or you do, but you want to get away from it–this post is for you!
Five things I love right now: Steve edition
01. Watching Peaky Blinders with him. It’s the newest show we’ve gotten into and, after a long day, sitting down to watch some violent gangsters rule Birmingham, England back in the day is juuuust the thing. (Seriously, sometimes I wonder why I enjoy dark shows and movies so much. Who’s to say? But I do.)
02. How much he loves my chicken noodle soup and happily proclaim that it’s the best every time I make it. (He is such an appreciative diner.)
03. When a brand reaches out wanting to work with him for a change and we get to swap places. I get him in front of the camera and, to loosen him up, I say inappropriate things and he laughs.
04. His support. His support here, in my Beautycounter business, in the health things that matter to me. He’s just a really, really solid support and it’s one of the things I’m so grateful for.
05. This outfit c/o Everlane: the jeans, this v-neck, and this bomber jacket; Everlane’s Uniform Collection for men has such great basics from collared shirts, to jeans, to jean jackets, and perfect tees. Plus, Everlane’s transparency and practices make them such a pleasure to shop with!
A brighter mid-February.
If there was ever a time to slowly slump on into the winter doldrums, that time is mid-February. Sure, Valentine’s Day can perhaps distract us for a short while from the ho-hum-ness of the reality that winter has been sitting in our midst for quite awhile now, but it isn’t long lasting, and certainly the sugar that often comes hand in hand with that holiday does nothing for our mood (or our health). I do believe that my outlook has been a bit rosier this winter than years past. Am I more resilient? Am I making better choices? What is going on here?
Notes for the Road.
Trying our best to get outside most days and failing some days. Progress, not perfection! And doesn’t it look like we live in a legitimate tundra? It doesn’t look like that everywhere in town, but this little hike we went on with friends sure delivered. You guys watching the Superbowl this weekend? Steve actually said, “I can just chill out for this one. No stress! It’s kind of nice!” with the Pats not being in it. Even so, I know he’d prefer they were. My parents are on their way up here for a few days and I’m looking forward to spending time with them.
Bread + books.
We had almost no plans this weekend, and the boys were deep into Magnatiles Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I mean, deep into them all weekend long. I could barely tear them away from this game they had made up that, I think, included a blend of Magnatiles’ ships, Lego men, some dinosaurs, and a lot of sound effects. I stayed in bed until almost 9 on Saturday morning, hearing that their playing was well underway, I had a book, Steve brought me coffee, and really, why should I get up?
Notes for the Road.
The weekend is here, and I’m so happy about it. Side note – if you have time for a family movie night and you have Disney+… watch Togo. It is so, so good. Enough that we’ve watched it twice in a month which we don’t do often. For the sensitive souled kids, it doesn’t have any terribly heart-achy animal scenes in it! (As opposed to Eight Below– also fantastic, but a little more heartbreak… I always have to be cognizant of that with Parker! He’s my deep feeler). Anyway, have a wonderful weekend, friends.
