We were running some errands last week, and stopped at one of our favorite farms knowing that there’d be some fresh cider donuts waiting for us inside (after we retrieved them and paid for them, of course). There’s a lot of places in our area where you can get cider donuts, but there are few that actually make them on site. And, if you know cider donuts (or, really any donuts), you know that the sooner you eat them, the better. None of this farm to truck to store nonsense.
a new year.
today’s my birthday. i’m turning 32. will it ever stop getting weird? will i ever stop saying these annoyingly trite things like, “i feel like i just graduated high school”? i mean, no, high school does not truly feel like it just happened but it does feel like the years since then have flown by. much faster than, say, one to fifteen years of age did. fifteen to 32? i’ve got kids and a house? i’m on the other side of the wedding planning and baby-making? what?
weekend links.
What are you doing this weekend? Ours will be quiet (well, quiet is relative in the Hunt home). The next few get a bit crazier though, so I’m going to relax this weekend–and do all the laundry (that’s funny; I’m sure I won’t. There’s no doing all the laundry ever.). Maybe watch a good movie. Any recommendations? (Did you like Girl on a Train? I sort of want to see that.) If you’re interested in something on Netflix–The Fall!–so good. (Anders’ cute shirt: an oldie from Mamacase!)
Now for some weekend reading…
dressing kids for the holiday season.
I hardly ever match the boys but when I do it makes me a little giddy. Little boys in matching outfits?! Sign me up. So when I saw these cable sweaters by one of my favorite kids’ brands, it was a given. I love the classics that can be worn over and over.
My own (veggie-filled) version of Marcella Hazan’s tomato sauce.
The title is a little much, I know. A little like who does she think she is. Like I’m editing Shakespeare or something. Bear with me.
my favorite jackets to take you from fall to winter.
jackets! let’s talk about jackets. the not very warm, the warm(ish), and the snow blizzard ones. it’s that time of year…

This picture cracks me up. Anders’ shirt goes well with his face. What are your plans this weekend? I’m inviting some friends over and we’re having facials and wine and apps–so, basically my dream night.

school lunch ideas.
i’ve had several mom friends ask me–particularly at the beginning of the school year–so what do you pack for lunch?!? it seems that we’re all pretty good at feeding our kids at home, but once it’s packed up and shipped out to be consumed around a table at school, our minds go blank.
fall neutrals with thredUP.
cardigan: madewell via thredUP / my own chambray and shirt / jeans: j.brand via thredUP
it doesn’t take long to sift through the pages of thredUP and find a few staples that’ll take you into the cooler weather where you live (unless you’re one of the lucky few who isn’t experiencing cooler weather!). this year i’m loving neutrals (every year i’m loving neutrals). that was definitely reflected in my thredUP cart: two pairs of jeans, a few black tops, and an earth-toned cardigan. my fall uniform, if you will.
halloween 2016.
We’ve been celebrating Halloween since Wednesday, really, when Parker went to school as Spiderman for their Halloween party. Then, he got to be a bear for another party, and Anders a dog, and then came a birthday party (Spiderman, again), and then the day — the one he’s been asking me to point out on the calendar all month long, the very last day in an extra long month (painful for a five year old), where he finally choose a cheetah costume.
