I’m suddenly very impatient with the colder weather we’re experiencing this March. When Mother Nature deals you a 70+ degree day in late February, late 30’s in early March is especially unwelcome. Shame on me to chafe against the weather this way, though. She pays no mind to what my opinion of her is. Meanwhile, I guess a winter storm may be on its way?
all the beautiful earrings.
after many years without wearing earrings much (you know… baby fingers + earrings have never been a good mix!), i’m getting back into it and discovering so many good options. from classic hoops to a throwback resin to big statement earrings, i love them all. is there a resurgence in awesome earrings lately or have they always been this cool but i just haven’t been looking? whatever the case, now i am and i love it. mine above are these beauties!

Anders little cross-legged position while he eats his eggs. Ugh, those little things are just so stinking cute. Some major winds and rain here right now. Crossing my fingers we keep power. Have a good weekend!

weekend in sioux falls, part 2.
Back for round two of our time away with South Dakota Tourism! Next morning… up and at ’em! We headed over to Queen City Bakery which was a stone’s throw from our hotel. Have I mentioned this yet? Sioux Falls is a city, technically, but the downtown district where the shopping and eating is is super concentrated. I can imagine being in Sioux Falls without a car in the warmer months, and getting places on foot pretty easily!
better (health) habits!
I’m trying to (as of like, yesterday) drink green tea. Every day. Coffee in the morning (with collagen–most of the time!) and then late morning/early afternoon, a cup of green tea, with lots of water in between. My sister Kate suggested even putting some tea bags in a mason jar in the fridge over night and having it cold-brew style. I like that idea too. It’s all hearsay anecdotal stuff (the research is actually there, but I just haven’t read it!) but I keep hearing that green tea really is so good for you. I’ve always wanted to drink it more, but have never totally loved it, and thus just hadn’t ever added it to my routine. No more excuses! It’s in the rotation! Benjamin button my face, green tea!
You know those vegetables like kohlrabi at the grocery store that you have no idea what to do with? The ones that aren’t even on your radar? I’m going to buy them! Figure out how to cook them! And then eat them! I get in ruts where I prepare and eat the same vegetables over and over again–broccoli, peppers, carrots, spinach, celery, onions, potatoes, etc. But we should eat all the colors of the rainbow and different varieties of each! They all can offer something a little different. Plus, exposing them to my kids seems like a smart idea. Do you do this? How do you cook obscure vegetables? Help me with my kohlrabi. And fennel.
I’m trying to fill small bits of time throughout my day reading from some of my favorite positive nutritional books. Nourishing Traditions is always one of those. Even a page while I drink my coffee. And, don’t laugh, but if you want one that has some pretty decent info (much less deep and thorough than Nourishing Traditions) in laymen’s terms get TB12. Some very good info on both at home workouts and also simple, somewhat easy-to-adopt nutritional information.
I’ve listened to a few of these Funk’tional Nutrition podcasts in the car and love everything I’ve heard. Very whole-food, gut health based which is totally up my alley. If you’re looking for a conversational way to take in some good health info, give one a try. On that note, do you have any other health type podcasts you like?
What are you doing for better health these days?

Such an old picture now, but I came across it the other day and dragged it to my desktop to just keep looking at it because–my goodness–that boy! It’s a sunny day and we had a 75 degree day this week which is unreal in February. Feeling like spring may come again!

weekend in sioux falls, part one.
When an email came through my inbox a few months ago about working with Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the winter, I honestly couldn’t totally place it. A lot of vacation places, you know what to expect weather-wise, activity-wise. This east coast girl couldn’t quite figure out what Sioux Falls was all about. My midwesterner at heart husband (born and bred in Evanston, and still claims Chicago as having the nation’s greatest food. Please… has he never had a good Philly cheesesteak?) was somewhat familiar with Sioux Falls, definitely familiar with South Dakota as a whole, and said eagerly, “Let’s go!” And so we did. If it’s not already clear, this is in collaboration with South Dakota Tourism. So, come along with us to Sioux Falls!
five things I’m loving right now.
01. Little boys in matching pjs in hotel beds. We just returned from South Dakota late last night, but this is a picture from yesterday morning. The two of them cuddled up together watching something (Paw Patrol? Trolls?) on the iPad. Just a cute scene.
02. Cloud paint. I just got this last week and I love it. It’s not clinging to dry patches the way some cream blushes can, it spreads super nice, a little bit goes a long way, and it stays on. I got it in puff. I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would.
03. Tom and Jerry originals. Steve sat down to watch TV with the boys recently and was not into the fact that there’s no old school Saturday morning cartoon shows on anymore. He bought the first volume on Amazon (entire volume was $6.99!) and the boys giggle so much while watching. Throwback.
04. This recipe. It is so full of flavor and has so few ingredients, it always amazes me. It’s those caramelized onions, man. The shredded cheese completely covering the top of it doesn’t hurt either.
05. My shop page. I have a shop page! I told my friend Megan like it was sort of a new and exciting thing and she was like, “how has it taken you this long. I had one like five years ago.” Well, fine. So I guess I’ve finally come around to what I should’ve had all along?
girls’ weekend in the hudson valley!
A girls’ weekend with some of the women you hold most dear in this world should come around more than every ten years, but the last time we got away for a weekend–sisters and Mom–was when my Mom turned 60! And late January was her 70th birthday. We’ve decided it will become a yearly thing going forward. (I haven’t told Steve that yet.)

Staying in the Hudson Valley this weekend with my sisters and Mom. For my Mom’s 70th. The last time we did this was when she turned 60! Every ten years is not often enough. Gearing up for so much fun with these women I love so much. Thank you for your recommendations the other day on my IG on places to eat, by the way!
