Writing this post is altogether necessary and a bit stressful. When you know better, you do better. Or something like that. (Related: ignorance is bliss.) I have had a certain level of heaviness, growing over the past few years, as it relates to consumerism, waste, and the feeling I get when I’m holding something I’m not sure how to dispose of properly but that needs to exit the house. It’s this inner dialogue: “What are the rules on this? Can I recycle this? Will this just end up in a landfill?”
Notes for the Road
Our friends from Italy are visiting this weekend! I’m so excited to see them (but our weather is not getting in line; it’s been gorgeous lately, and now tomorrow is calling for cold weather and rain! Hoping by some miracle it’s beautiful.). We may have an inaugural fire in our new fire pit with lots of rosé. That will keep us warm, right?!

picnicking with brandless.
I heard about Brandless recently, than heard about them again, then again, then again, then asked in a Friday post if you guys had heard of them, and had a couple of you tell me, “yes! And they’re awesome!” and so, when they contacted me, as you can imagine, I was totally down. I went on the site, chose a bunch of things from their food items, and a plan to picnic at our favorite spot ever was hatched–first of the season!
my favorite products these days
I wasn’t really a products junkie until my 30s. I really didn’t do much for my hair or skin until even more recently. Now, I love a good product. A great review from a blogger I follow and I’m digging for more reviews, asking more questions, totally intrigued. Oils, serums, hair potions… GIVE ME ALL THE MAGIC ELIXIRS. Forget a pair of shoes, how about a facial?!
Notes for the Road
It’s the weekend! Yahoo! Any special plans for Mother’s Day? I’m not sure what we’re doing–except playing a mothers vs. sons lacrosse game at Parker’s lacrosse practice this weekend, ha. And I think we’re going to do some sort of backyard gardening / beautifying. We want to finally build a firepit. Something like this. Hope you all have a good one.

our living room so far.
Before we even get started, let’s pretend we don’t see the miscellany underneath the couch, ok? Ok! So, as you all know, we moved into a new house almost 4 years ago now. We moved here with the same Pottery Barn couch that we bought together when we were married. Six kids and two dogs later, it had seen its day. It was white and while you may think that’s brave of me, it was slipcovered and actually pretty easy to maintain (if you’re willing to remove the slipcovers, treat stains, wash, dry, and put them back on, anyway!). But even so, we needed a new sofa. We needed something bigger, too.
taking stock / 22.
I took this picture on a quick 24 (just under, but we’ll round up) trip I was lucky enough to take at theeeee best in the hotel world–LARK! (Sound familiar? Remember this?) They’re wonderful, their hotels are gorgeous, and I just really like them. Anyway, it’s been almost a year since I’ve done a taking stock post. I’ve always liked them as they give a good overall of where I’m at and what life looks like at a point in time. So, let’s do another.
things to remember
i’ve been jotting down noteworthy (to me) things in various places over the last month or so… in my composition book that goes everywhere with me, texting myself, journals… you know… those absurdly cute things kids do or say that are gone as quickly as they arrived. how they said a particular word, the way they swung one arm way more than the other when they walked. it’s impossible to get them all down, but here is my attempt!
four favorite cookbooks + four favorite food blogs!
I love, love, love flipping through a good cookbook. I mean, I’ll sit down with a cookbook the way some might a juicy novel and flip through page by page to take it all in. I like reading the author’s notes, their commentary on the meal or the night they made it and how it reminded them of their father and how he used to dance in the kitchen to Ella Fitzgerald while he made his famous ratatouille. I just like good stories, and I find that when food is the central focus, the storytelling is really good.
Notes for the Road
It has been a good week here. I’ve had to wash the boys’ feet before bed and open windows at night while we sleep for some cool air in a warm house, and we’ve taken our lunch outside. It’s GLORIOUS. I’m just really happy that spring is finally here. And that the window boxes are taking over all over town too.
